Heathland Friday fieldwork!
A trip to the lowland heaths of Cheshire last week, collecting more soil samples for
@ukceh.bsky.social
It'll be interesting to see what these samples show about how different habitats recover from excess Nitrogen deposition

Firstly to the upland moorlands of Wales, with an intense but worthwhile couple of days sampling.
It's been a good chance to learn more about fieldwork; and looking forward to taking it forward to future site visits.

Friday fieldwork from last week for
@ukceh.bsky.social
Whilst dodging the grim weather sample collecting, there were some nice breaks in the weather for some amazing scenery!
Following on from Sand Dune sampling in January, it was onto moorland sampling this week
First batch of fieldwork for 2026!
Revisiting coastal sand dunes for @ukceh.bsky.social change monitoring, and nice to learn about a new science issue; collecting samples to examine the effects of Nitrogen deposition on dune biology

It'll be interesting to learn about how @ukceh.bsky.social Flux Towers can monitor how CO2 is both absorbed and emitted by the salt marsh, and how we can use this to monitor greenhouse gas changes

Fieldwork Friday!
Another positive few days in the field working on some of our Flux Towers out on the salt marsh for @ukceh.bsky.social
Definitely a change in habitat from peat bogs to salt marsh! One of the big positives of the job that I get to see all these fantastic habitats
These cameras let us observe vertical movement of the surface of the bogs; from which we can observe if they're a healthy place for wildlife and storing greenhouse gases!

Friday Fieldwork!
Back out on the bogs again this week, however this time it's for a different piece of work for @ukceh.bsky.social!
This time was going out to change over monitoring cameras - some work I'm looking forward to start helping with :)
Last Friday's Fieldwork!
First fieldwork of 2025 on the South Cumbrian peatlands!
Interesting to see Hannah's moth recording; atmospheric chemistry; and water table work - plus how we can use the data for long term environmental management

Thank you @kitmacleod.bsky.social! Definitely a solid team effort :)
We also have a *NEW* prototype spatial data explorer on @eidcdata.bsky.social (catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/documents/5a...)
The dataset was funded through the National Capability for UK challenges (NC-UK) programme

Land Cover Map 2024 is available now!
The latest in the series of @ukceh.bsky.social Land Cover Maps in raster and vector formats across spatial resolutions! This adds another year to our well established time series!
Land Cover Map 2024 is available through @eidcdata.bsky.social
It was really interesting to see Claire and Laura present on
@ukceh.bsky.social long term monitoring programmes - Countryside Survey and ERAMMP, along with Cecily's work on co-designing data platforms for restoration!

IALE conference in Edinburgh!
A great week in Edinburgh for @landscapeecologyuk.bsky.social conference representing @ukceh.bsky.social; showing our poster on using Sentinel 1 data to predict water table depth on lowland peatlands
Thank you @natreswales.bsky.social for your help with the project!
Ready for the International Association of Landscape Ecology Conference!
Presenting on our Remote Sensing for Water Table Depth monitoring 😊

New paper alert! Read about the process undertaken to safe-guard valuable data from the British Countryside Surveys, established by our late co-founder, Professor Robert (Bob) Bunce, in the 1970s, and complementary surveys in 1969 and the 1990s. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Really interesting listen Nick :)
Well deserved recommendation Manisha! You're doing great work 😃
