Why do pathological protein aggregates persist in cells and how can we overcome this?
In our new preprint, we show that Tau aggregates fail to initiate selective autophagy and that their autophagic degradation can be restored.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Immunologist Indira Nath would have been 88 years old today. She studied immune responses and the nerve damage caused by leprosy, which was highly prevalent in India at the time. By the end of her career, that prevalence had been knocked from 58/10,000 to 1/10,000.

Two groundbreaking women of medicine share today as their birthday - Marie Durocher (b. 1809) dressed as a man to practice medicine in Brazil for a half century, while Harriette Chick (b. 1875) worked as a microbiologist, discovering the causes of both rickets and pellagra.

A recent paper reveals a surprising insight. The length of the cell cycle in a particular tissue determines the oncogenic transformation capacity of particular oncogenes, with tissues with shorter cell cycles most susceptible 3/n

Schematic representation of Rab GTPases acting as “eat me” signals for selective autophagy.

In this week's #mitophagy papers, Rab GTPases take the centre stage, with a systematic study their role in autophagy, showing that multiple "Rabs" selectively mediate the degradation of mitochondria and other cellular components.
