A toad stands up on a bed of pine and fir litter. The toad is squat, mostly pale brown with many darker brown lumps on its skin, and has large eyes with golden-bronze irises and roughly horizontal pupils.

A beautiful Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas) that some mountain bikers pointed out to me and my buddy while we were out taking photos.

Rain is coming tomorrow, so I will try to get to #RoundValley to see if I can photograph some Western Toads ( #Anaxyrus boreas) for @toadcialism.bsky.social and if I am really lucky - California Red-legged Frogs (Rana #draytonii ) but of the many times I've been there, only twice have I seen them.

A pair of toads is seen in shallow water. The smaller green male is seen clutching on to the back of the larger brown female.
