Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Nachise 2023, Arizona Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and chocolates. Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs. Very dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a tasty and easy drinking GSM blend from Arizona. Tangy and spicy. Nicely balanced and feels like a California Grenache blend. Needed 30 minutes to open up and bring out the pretty nose, showing more red fruits as it opens up. At this point, the Grenache and Mourvedre are more prominent than the Syrah. I really loved the nose here. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with a cheese board. Grapes are grown at high elevation. A blend of 54% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre and 17% Grenache. Aged in (15% new) oak barrels for 15 months. A small production of less than 5,500 bottles. 89 points. 13.8% alcohol by volume. $23.
