That's the macro, reductive view, which is not the whole story, ofc.
We're "designed" to sexually reproduce by a code that evolved from an earlier design that was sexless. We also evolved to modify our behavior in order to optimize our population (reproduce) - itself an extension of #autopoiesis.

If I had to guess why Maturana was so adamant that social systems could not be autopoietic, besides his disagreement with Luhmann's use of the term as indicated in the above interview, the other reason might be that #autopoiesis is a #process, not a #system. I've fixed that😉
