Jul 1 1916 During #BattleOfTheSomme 794 men of the 1st Newfoundland Regiment attacked German lines. Only 68 were able to do role call the next day. NFL joined Canada in 1949. On July 1 they mourn the men lost #OTD then celebrate Canada Day en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoria...

For two years he exercised a dedicated pastoral ministry among soldiers who held him in very high regard.  A ministry that he greatly loved came to an end all too quickly when he was called upon to assist as Curate Assistant for two years in the Cathedral Parish of St Anne’s, Belfast
