An elaborate embroidery depicting a medieval scene. On the left a gold coloured tower with a stylised roof that extends across the image in an inverted V shape to another smaller tower in the right. In the centre of the image a man with green robes and a crown is holding a sceptre in his left hand. To his left two presumed courtiers, one dressed in light blue edged with gold, and one in a darker burgundy colour. Above him the inscription Edward Rex. At the bottom of the image in the centre, two large golden birds, and to the left a couple of dogs, only one of which is fully visible. At the top are two mythical creatures, and what maybe a representation of plants or flowers. A high resolution copy of the original tapestry can be seen here: https://www.bayeuxmuseum.com/en/the-bayeux-tapestry/discover-the-bayeux-tapestry/explore-online/#explore
It's 1064, and Edward the Confessor sits on his throne in Westminster. The opening scene from maybe the most famous tapestry ever, the #BayeuxTapestry. This photo is from the Victorian copy of 1885 on permanent display at @readingmuseum.bsky.social. More in Alt.

Been to a fascinating lecture on the Bayeux tapestry. This is Bishop Odo fighting on the Norman side and brandishing a mace. Bishops were not allowed to arm themselves with a sword! #History #BayeuxTapestry

Why such a fuss with the #BayeuxTapestry & its travel to the #UK? If it is widely accepted to have been made in #England, shouldn't it be there instead of in a French museum?
Then taking into account that it should remain in 🇬🇧 the probability of it being damaged is not as high as many experts think
Sandra Sawatzky's "Black Gold Tapestry" is so impressive and epic.
She researched and embroidered the history of oil across multiple continents from dinosaurs to today— wars, invention of the car, historical events…
Here she talks about her process: storyboards and stitching... #BayeuxTapestry
Oh, is #BayeuxTapestry trending?
Have to mention Sandra
Sawatzky's Black Gold Tapestry that shows the history of humankind and oil.

A folding souvenir (1970s) booklet reproducing the Bayeux Tapestry. The cover is pin, orange and yellow with an illustration of a king on a throne, a cathedral and three ships setting off for England.
A souvenir booklet that unfolds to illustrate the entire Bayeux Tapestry in tones of beige and brown.
Since everybody's talking (at least in the UK) about the #BayeuxTapestry, here's a '70s souvenir from Normandy.
The booklet opens to display the tapestry in full, but is too long to photograph flat. [Now to carefully refold!]

Standing in front of a great structural column is a wide heavy Purbeck marble font with a large central column and 4 further ones, two of which are visible. These sit on a base made to fit footprint of columns, which stands on a further square base, on yet another platform, made of large blocks of stone. The basin of the font is decorated with simple slightly elongated arches, two on each of the faces. Behind and to the left is a great rounded Saxon arch leading to the sacristy. On the right can be seen a more recent arched window at the east end of the church.
#FontsonFriday Bosham's C12 Purbeck marble octagonal lead lined font in Holy Trinity Saxon church.
And to the left, a glimpse of #Saxon arch, as featured in the #BayeuxTapestry (coming to a Museum near you in September if you happen to be in London).
