Two Robins sitting on a pine tree. One is hidden by some pine needles, the other is fully visible and just about to fly away.

Being highly territorial, at most times the Robin Redbreast or European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is solitary but then in Spring they seek out partners.

Conservation status: least concern

It's that special time of the year when wonderous things happen. Like seeing two #Robins together for the very first time in my life!!

All focus up and ahead.
The local European Green Woodpecker.
Its unmistakable call even has a special name 'yaffling', the birds sometimes called the Yaffle 😍

The Common Chiffchaff is a tiny songbird. Difficult to see let alone photograph as it moves swiftly through the leaves.
This little one made my day as it sat still a few seconds for these photographs.

My #eBird #bird of the day😊

#Wikipedia says, 'Collective nouns for a group of ravens include a "conspiracy", a "treachery", a "rave" and an "unkindness"; most people generally use the more generic "flock".'
An 'unkindness' is really most unkind to these interesting birds.

It's been wonderful this year.
Walks in town, along the river were impressive in the number of birds that I spotted.

This is a very sweet female Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata). It's mate unfortunately wasn't anywhere around.

The European Robin
Part II (the song)
Celebrating it's gorgeous song, as it sang it's heart out on a grey morning. People who work on protection for beauty such as this are real-life heroes.

Yesterday at the Birdlife Austria conference, there was a horrifying, heartbreaking, much-needed presentation on how small songbirds like this pretty red breasted European robin are captured and killed often in the most cruel of ways to be eaten!
A traditional delicacy!!

Thankfully the presentation by Alexandra Dürr, from the Department of Nature Conservation - Birdlife Austria also included protection and conservation efforts by organisations like Birdlife along with local police.

Coming back home, I had to take a look through my photographs and share this with you.

To share the wonder of it's beauty, it's gorgeous song and to celebrate it's life.
