Well, hello! 🦊 Very cute visitor in my garden yesterday! Hanging around for a bit, clawing at compost bags, scratching the soil. Then traversing neighbouring gardens before travelling on. I hope she comes back. 🦊🦊🦊 #urbanfox #urbangarden #citywildlife #foxy
the same church yard covered in snow. we've zoomed in on the brown rock and see that it's actually a hare sitting curled up like a ball with one ear sticking up. in the photo I've painted a red ring and an arrow around the hare. Photo: Lotta Fjelkegård

It's an adult hare, relaxing on the lawn! 😍
30 seconds later it ran away to avoid confronting someone walking their dog in the grave yard (don't ask!)

As a fan of #CityWildlife and our mission to even the balance between the urban human lifestyle and our that of our wildlife kin, I find this poem of Burns’ particularly moving. It also strikes a chord about the social contract on the whole.
Two seagulls stand on a rooftop in Plymouth with historic buildings and a clear winter sky behind them.
Keeping an eye on things.

Birds at my feeders to date: titmouses, red bellied woodpecker, downy woodpeckers (M&F,), white breasted nuthatch, goldfinch, house finches, house sparrows by the bunches, dark eyed juncos, cardinals. Blue Jays hanging around. #citywildlife

a big moth in a glass jar. It has grey marbled upper-wings, and much more flashy under-wings with scarlet red and black bands, along with a white fringe on the edge.
this year I saw two Red underwing, one of the biggest Noctuid moths in central Europe. They are pretty neat, I think. Their caterpillars develop on willows and poplars, so it makes sense they would feel at home in #Vienna since we have many of those. #insects #moths #cityWildlife

two butterfly chrysalises are resting on a piece of stained kitchen tissue. The one on the right is twice the length of the one of the left. They both have similar shapes, very pointy. The bigger chrysalis is brown with a few golden spots, while the smaller one is darker brown, with silvery spots, making it look like very fancy bird poop.
A series of butterfly chrysalises, hanging from stems all taped together with bright red masking tape. They are all the same size, but different shades of brown, from almost beige to almost black. One is almost completely hidden in a curled up dried leaf. The tape is stuck to a glass jar containing a piece of kitchen tissue, and more chrysalises.
We are done with the #insects workshops until spring, so it's time to release the butterflies!
Adults were released on the last day, with the kids, but I have a bunch of pupae left. I spread them in the park next door and hopefully they will hatch soon!

A moth is standing on the asphalt floor. It has a beautiful pattern of grey-brown, green, and silver on its wings and thorax. It is quite fluffy at well, with a tuft of hair forming a peak behind its head. It's seen from the side, and you can see one of its round black eyes.
A graph, screenshoted from iNaturalist. X axis is time, divided by months. The curve looks like the sum of two gaussians, with peaks in Jun and august. Y has no unit, but starts increasing in April and is back to zero in October.
Cute moth, seen and rescued in the street! According to @inaturalist.bsky.social, it's really at the end of usual observation period.
It feeds on many weeds, often unwanted in cities. Luckily we can see many of these #Unkraut in Vienna! And so we can enjoy this mossy moth!

A little ginger yellow common carder bumblebee forages on top of pink/purlple coloured buddleia flowers. The bee is shown side on to the camera with wings stretched out behind and antenna bent in front. the background is out of focus greenery
On the buddleia in the kirkyard not so very long ago, a fresh little common carder bumblebee caught my eye 🐝

In the foreground a red admiral butterfly feeds on purple buddleia in the kirkyard. Sightly out of focus in the background is the round stone wall of the church and a stone building. There is some grass and a blue sky with clouds. The photo was taken on a sunshiny day.

I saw this butterfly or moth in Manhattan, but I am not sure what it is exactly.
It is very pretty though, and seemed to be having a wonderful time hanging out by this flower.

Love these raspy parrots. While not city, but when I moved to #Matakana 30 years ago heard a small band would sometimes visit Te Point but never saw them. Now they are often seen - breeding nearby. Last Summer there were 12-14 hanging about in one of my tree's
