Spring at Clifford’s Tower
Whilst this is not the original castle that William the Conqueror had built, the current Clifford’s Tower was built between 1245 and 1272 for King Henry III.

March 16, 1190 - The entire Jewish community of York, England, perished while observing Shabbat ha-Gadol, the last sabbath before Passover. Gathered together inside Clifford’s Tower, the keep of York's medieval castle, for protection from the violent mob outside, many of the Jews took their own lives; others died in the flames they had lit, and those who finally surrendered were massacred and murdered.

Robert Aske, lawyer and rebel was executed. He was hanged in chains outside Clifford’s Tower (the keep of York Castle) on a special scaffold erected for the occasion.

Having said that, I visited #CliffordsTower last summer & @englishheritage has done a very good job with both the physical renovation & the historical explanation & interpretation
I love your posts, so don't take this the wrong way, but given the rise in #Antisemitism any mention of #CliffordsTower should commemorate that in 1190 it was the site of a mass murder of #Jews, one of worst antisemitic acts in British history production.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places...
