Zwei Kraniche auf dem Weg zu ihren Schlafplätzen. Sie fliegen von rechts nach links, dee vordere etwas oberhalb. Die Schwingen sind weit ausgebreitet, die Finger (die äußeren einzelnen Flügelfedern) weit abgespreizt. Obwohl sie in Deutschland im Herbst zu Tausenden auftreten leben Kraniche in der Regel monogam immer zu zweit!

Kraniche im Nebel an einem Ufer, umgeben von Büschen. Aufgenommen an einem Stausee in der Extremadura in den frühen Morgenstunden. Ein Grund unseres Aufenthalts in der Extremadura: die Kraniche, die jedes Jahr von Nordeuropa über Deutschland hierher zum Überwintern kommen. Da die Kranichwanderung im Herbst 2023 Jahr deutlich verzögert stattfand, wurden hier noch lange nicht die üblichen Zahlen erreicht. Einige Tiere hielten sich Ende November immer noch in Deutschland (Linum, Brandenburg bzw. In der Diepholzer Niederung in Niedersachsen) auf, viele waren noch in den Zwischenstationen in Frankreich und den Pyrenäen zu finden. Dennoch herrschte an den relevanten Schlafplätzen bereits reger Betrieb. Aufgrund des Nebels konnte ich leider nur eine kleine Anzahl der Tiere sehen - zu hören waren tatsächlich weitaus mehr. No doubt to celebrate #WorldWetlandsDay, this evening the Cranes treated us to a trumpet volley close by, but hidden in the reeds, as we watched the sun set over Joist Fen @RSPBLakenheath.
