Chateau LaGrange Saint Julien Grand Cru Classé 2010, Bordeaux, France #AgedWineTuesday Dense dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, spices, dark coffee, vegetables, herbs and black pepper. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, black currants, black plums, tobacco leaf, cedar, light earth, spices, dark coffee, herbs, dark chocolates, peppercorn and black tea. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 15 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from the great 2010 vintage in Bordeaux. Rich and extracted. Complex and engaging. Powerful and spicy. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Fruit forward and interesting. Drinking very nicely now and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like a big piece of steak. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. Aged in (60% new) French Oak barrels for 21 months. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $120.

Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates and black pepper. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 5 year old, second wine from this Fifth Growth Bordeaux winery is drinking very nicely now. Well balanced with nice complexity. Spicy, rich and fruit forward. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (50% new) French oak barrels for 15 months. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $40.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, stewed cherries, dried figs, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, herbs, light earth, chocolates, tobacco and black pepper. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. What a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and nicely balanced. Fruit forward, smooth and complex. This 16 year old is drinking beautifully now. Elegant and robust at the same time, with a great mouthfeel. Good right out of the bottle, and so much better after 2 hours in the decanter. Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink beautifully in the next 5 years. I had a few vintages of this wine, and it is very consistent. A good quality wine. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food like a big piece of steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 24 months. A tiny production of around 1,000 bottles. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 94 points. $110.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, blueberries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper, light vegetables, black tea and pencil lead. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 21 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Saint Estephe is drinking beautifully now. Still showing enough fruits with lots of chocolate and earth notes. Elegant and rich. Subdued, but interesting. What are great surprise. I did not think this would drink so nicely at this point. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 20 minutes of airtime, when tannins show up. Showing good structure and balance. Complex on the palate and the nose. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired very nicely with French cheeses. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 13% alcohol by volume. 94 points. $50.

This is a very tasty 5 year old second wine from Beychevelle in Saint Julien. Elegant and spicy with lots of chocolate notes. Showing good structure, and a good quality wine. Balanced, complex and easy drinking. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years and see how it evolved. A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (30% new) French oak barrels. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $45.

I had the 2005 vintage not too long ago and this 2007 vintage is drinking better now. Well balanced and complex. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with a big piece of steak too.
