“Tannin" is from the art of tanning leather, with its roots in Celtic for oak - tannos & Latin verb tannare - to tan from the art of using oak bark to convert hides into leather. The chemicals for this were named tannins by the French scholar Armand Seguin in 1796 and are in cider #tannins #cider

Beautiful nose of blueberries, black plums, currants, cedar, chocolates, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, dark chocolates, herbs, black tea and black pepper. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, chocolates, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth and light vegetables. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 13 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Saint Julien. Rich and fruit forward. Elegant and nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. This Second Growth Bordeaux is starting to show age on the nose, but the palate is still fresh tasting. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Shows good structure with nice tannins. Expressive, and good by itself or with food. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. Aged in (80% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $120.

Persimmons contain tannins that can cause an unusual "dry mouth" or puckering sensation when the fruit is unripe. As persimmons ripen, those same tannins break down, transforming the fruit from mouth- puckeringly astringent to sweet and juicy.

Various fishtanks in varying degrees of tannins, commonly called black or dark water aquariums. Usually soft water (Low mineral), and acidic due to dead foliage. Commonly can be found in Asia or in any other jungle setting. Many labyrinth fish can live in these types of tanks/environments. Such as gouramis, Snake heads, Bettas, Dwarf and normal Cichlids. As well as many tetra species.
