The younger New Zealand dabchick | Weweia at Western Springs has grown so much in just one week! It is now more independent and is increasingly being dumped off its parents back and encouraged to swim along side its parent.

A Little Grebe swimming on still water, with the fish it has caught held in its beak. Though they're small and fluffy, these birds are effective predators. The fish will be stunned and manoeuvred into the right position to be swallowed head-first, thus preventing its fins from damaging the Grebe's throat.
