A brown wooden block sits on a bricked surface. White fungal mycelium traces dense tree-like shapes over the bottom half of the block, and up the right side. It looks a bit like white frost spreading on a windowpane.
A dark brown wooden block sits on a bricked surface. It is covered with a white mycelial net, dense at the sides and loose as it covers the middle, a bit like a fishnet stocking’s pattern. It looks a bit like the pattern a slime mold plasmodium makes as it roams around.
I use wooden blocks inside ceramic pots at work to make my liner flowerpots sit level. Often, in spring, I discover the fungi have been having a mycelial festival in the damp darkness! The patterns mimic frost, or roots, or trees. Isn’t it nifty?
