Hello from our Illyarie Eucalyptus. Native to Western Australia they break the hearts of suburban #gardeners as they shed their long branches wvery year or so. But they attract rainbow loris by the bushload, and for about 8 weeks they bloom like this. #trees #eucalypts

Even though I took this in high sun, I really like the stark white reflection off the branches, which complements the neon #flowers nicely.

This is why you never park/camp under gum trees.
They don't call them 'widowmakers' for nothing.

Some gum trees have a bark-shedding season, a walking through the dropped bark is crunchy and noisy. #SundayPixTrees #SundayPix #Eucalypts #WildOz #Epping3076

I used to think Eucalyptus was a single species of tree. I now know that the genus includes over 700 species, from small, spindly shrubs to giants like this one... the Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans). It's the tallest flowering plant in the world. #WildTasmania #WildAustralia #Eucalypts #bigtrees

Looking through three eucalyptus trees out into a wetland with a bank in the distance with trees. There is a blue sky with cumulous nimbus clouds. There is a fallen tree in the foreground with bracken fern and grass on the closest bank.

Love the charactersitic knobbly #gumnuts on Southern Bluegums. Don't often see the #blossoms high up on these tall straight trees, but some helpful cockies had been pruning this one. #plants #australiannatives #eucalypts

I am very late to the party but #treering #dendro folk might enjoy these wondrous pieces by Bartholomäus Traubeck. He "recast the physical appearance of the rings" as piano keys. I suspect #eucalypts might sound a little more like improvisational jazz!

#dendro types, check this lovely summary out. It's not just conifers/gymnosperms. #wood anatomy of angiosperms (oak, #eucalypts, even #Acacia!) are also revealing new insights into how trees respond to climate change - quantifying vessel size, number and distribution especially.
