Photo showing part of the church of Fawsley St Mary, which is largely obscured by two large Yew trees in the churchyard. The churchyard is at the same level as the field in which it sits; to keep out the sheep who graze the field, there is a ditch with a stone wall on the churchyard side - a ha-ha.

... The view from the other side. Here, you can see the top of the stone wall on the churchyard side of the ditch (also part of the gate giving access on the South side). #Fawsley #OnePlaceStudy #ha-ha

Looking across to #Fawsley Hall in the Summer of 2021, when the grass was a lot less parched than it is this year! The hall, the parkland and the sheep pastures of the Knightley family (who arrived in the early 1400s) replaced the village that was situated here. #OnePlaceWednesday

Photo of the ruins of an old house (The Dower House) set amongst the mature trees and rough grazing of Fawsley Park. Partly made from brick, and partly from sandy-coloured stone, only walls, window frames and a few ornate brick chimney stacks remain.

#OnePlaceWednesday thanks to @varchgroup.bsky.social for flagging up the updated Dendrochronology Database🔗 – it includes a felling range of 1514-39 for timber in The Dower House in my Fawsley #OnePlaceStudy. Other records, project archives, reports & articles can be found via the Search Data page.

Photo looking across a small lake in January, with trees along and above the shoreline on the far side. Most of the trees, being deciduous, are leafless, but there is a large Cedar of Lebanon on the left with an umbrella of green foliage. The trees and the blue sky above are reflected on the surface of the lake.

I shared this view just after #ThickTrunkTuesday a couple of weeks ago, on the day on which I photographed it, but not as part of this thread where it really belongs. So here it is again, cropped in a different way! #Fawsley #Cedar #Trees #BlueSky #lake #reflections #LandscapePhotography #StormHour

View across a small, partially frozen lake (Horse Pond) which has a large Cedar of Lebanon (no missing a few of its lower branches) on its North bank, with other, deciduous trees (leafless in mid-Winter) on either side and a blue sky above.

View across a larger lake (Big Waters), with many trees on the far side and beyond. In the foreground is some frosty sheep pasture, and on either side of the image parts of two large, leafless trees can be seen.

View across another small lake (The Canal), with the late afternoon sun behind me adding its golden light to the scene. On the other side of the lake there is a leafless Oak tree on the left, close to the shore; a church with its tower and a couple of Yew trees on top of a low hill, and, along the right-hand (Eastern) edge of the lake, a reedbed.

Looking across The Canal lake again, but this time though a gap in the reeds on the East end of the lake, towards the sun which is low in the sky to the Southwest. The orange sun and the clouds lit up by it are reflected in the partially frozen water of the lake; the nearby reeds and the trees on the far side are in silhouette form.

I wanted to get over to #Fawsley in yesterday's sunshine, but my thyroid-linked tiredness prevented me. Today though, success! Icy, frosty and sunny afternoon views across Horse Pond, Big Waters, and the smallest of the three lakes, The Canal. #OnePlaceStudy #LandscapePhotography 🌿

One of the last Knightleys of #Fawsley in #Northamptonshire - a sparsely populated parish (thanks to a much earlier Knightley who turfed out the villagers to make room for more sheep) and one of my #OnePlaceStudies. Are then any other MPs (or equivalents) from OPS places out there?

The Knightley's owned #Fawsley Hall and #LongBuckbyWharf was in their constituency. Very busy chaps, so many newspaper articles mentioning them!
