All hands on deck in the warehouse. The Flax seed (with a pink coating) is being measured out in buckets from the large white totes at the right side of the image.
Sam, a local farmer, collecting the seed he'll be growing this spring. He is planning to plant twenty acres of fiber flax for the PA Flax Project! I suspect this may be the largest US fiber flax field sown on this side of the Mississippi River in the past 30+ years. Fiber flax is frequently grown at a seeding rate of 100 pounds/acre. I'll let you do the math...
Each of these black plastic buckets holds about ten pounds of seed.
A handful of one of the three flax varieties the PA Flax Project imported from France this spring; Aramis, Bolchoi, and Damara. The seeds have an antifungal coating on them, giving them a pink cast.
A few images from my trip to Philadelphia and the PA Flax Project (more info in the alt text).
I have multiple varieties of fiber flax seed available in my online store! HMU if you need seed. 🌱
