A monotone photograph of a three-storey Georgian building. The property's grand entrance has a triangular entablature with "Founded 1174" and "Hospital of St. John the Baptist" carved into the stone. Beyond the gated-arch is a dark passageway that leads to a brightly lit courtyard. St John's Foundation, Chapel Court, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A Georgian townhouse in a terrace on a pedestrian street. The three storey building (plus attic and basement) dates from 1770. The ground floor is painted white up to a platband, above which is exposed Bath oolitic limestone. The first floor has an unusual balcony featuring a swept canopy with trellised supports. A grand double staircase with ornate black wrought iron railings ascends symmetrically on either side of a luxurious red carpet runner. The stairs meet at a central landing beneath tall windows draped with elaborate burgundy and gold curtains. An elegant crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling, illuminating the cream-colored marble floors with black diamond insets. Fluted classical columns frame the entrance to this opulent interior space.

A photograph of a two-storey Georgian building in a terrace. At the centre, there is a doorway with a Tudor arch and "sunken spandrels." Above the vertical-panelled door is a wonderful carved stone scroll with the word "SCHOOLS" in blackletter type. Less nice is the bright yellow, hexagonal alarm box centred above it. The Schoolhouse (now the Bath Preservation Trust Planning & Campaigning Office), Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel, The Paragon, Bath, UK. Unfiltered and unedited photo by Gearóid Burke—the colour is a little exaggerated in this shot, but this is exactly what the lens picked up.

The side of a building with four bays—one with a panelled door, the other three feature large stained glass windows. At the top of each bay is a round window with a central oculus surrounded by six smaller circular openings. This chapel for St John's Foundation was built in 1717, and was the first Georgian chapel in Bath. There was a close association with the nearby parish church, the original St Michael’s Within, and when the latter was demolished, it adopted the name.

A church building in a terrace. A pair of arched doorways (though the doors have been replaced by plate glass windows) with a Corinthian column between them, above which is a round window and a shallow pediment. The second level has a trio of windows, the middle having a smaller Corinthian column as a mullion. Below the window ledges, the yellow limestone has the name Hope Chapel carved into it. The pediment has "United Methodist" on the ascending diagonal and "Free Churches" descending. The facade dates back to the 1860s, though the building is older than that. The Methodists vacated the premises in 1913, and now there are flats, most of which seem to be available as short-term holiday rentals. Lower Borough Walls, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A monotone photograph of a rather grand looking building. It is set back from its neighbours, the sides of which can be seen to the left and right. Iron railings and neat, low hedges are seen in the foreground. The front facade features tall windows with ogee-arched heads and a battlemented roofline, both key features of the Gothic Revival style. This is Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel. Selina Hastings, said Countess of Huntingdon, saw the social life in Bath as one of decadence and immorality, so she built a Chapel to spread her favoured flavour of Methodism. The chapel was last used for worship in 1981 and is now the Museum of Bath Architecture. The Paragon, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A modest, mid-terrace, three-storey Georgian townhouse in an English market town. It is built on a slope, opens directly to a footpath and faces an iron railing. The facade's warm grey paint is elegantly faded, the yellow stone trim shows signs of age and pollution. The doors and window frames have been painted laurel green, and the windows (one per floor) reduce in size and complexity as they rise up the building (20 panes, 12 panes, 6 panes). Catherine Street, Frome, Somerset, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.
