Impatiens glandulifera, otherwise known as #HimalayanBalsam. Very pretty but a Species of Special Concern & regulated under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This #invasive #non-native plant is of particular concern along watercourses. Pretty … but out competing our native flora. #biodiversity

Anyone had any success forcing landowners or IDB to clear #HimalayanBalsam? Recent IDB works mean millions of plants growing along ~2km river. We’ve tried information provision but most farming landowners aren’t responding. Council has done their stretch 👏

Took this vid a while back- shook a Himalayan balsam and caught the pods exploding in slow-mo. These things are a serious menace. We’ll be culling again this year to stop it smothering native species.
