I had a Hummingbird Hawk moth in my garden this morning, Poole, Dorset.
That is the earliest I’ve seen one and it was cold and breezy.

Moth that is black and gray, somewhat striped, with spots of orange. It has two thin, black antennae, and a long, thing proboscis that is inserted into a small white flower. It is hovering in the air in front of the flower. There are a few other white flowers, and some pink, leafy clusters, and larger green leaves. The background is blurry green leaves.

A Hummingbird Hawkmoth feeding from a patch of red valerian. This is a fairly large brown moth, with a white chin, pale underparts, and mosaic patches of cream, white, and black towards the rear of its body. Its forewings are brown with wavy black lines across them, and its hind wings are vivid orange. It has long black antennae, and an extremely long, black tongue, which allows it to feed from tube-shaped flowers while hovering above them.

Ein Taubenschwänzchen – ein schmetterlingsartiges Insekt – schwebt mit schnellen Flügelschlägen seitlich über einer orangefarbenen Blume, kurz vor dem Nektarflug. Die Szene ist in Nahaufnahme aufgenommen. Der Hintergrund ist weich verschwommen in grünlichen Tönen, wodurch das Insekt und die Blüte im Vordergrund deutlich hervortreten.
