カタクリの花。（古い呼び名はカタカゴ） 春の妖精（スプリング・エフェメラル）とも呼ばれる。 花言葉は「初恋」「嫉妬」「寂しさに耐える」 落葉広葉樹林の地表に咲き、早春に葉を出しすぐに花を咲かせ、夏には枯れて姿を消すユリ科の花。 片栗粉はこの花の鱗茎から採られていた。

A bright yellow tulip from above. The center is a dark black along with the anthers, with yellow, triangular stamen.
Yellow & red tulips with black centers outlined in yellow. Again with black another’s & yellow stamens. The showiest of all the tulips that have appeared so far.
The same bicolored tulips from a side angle. The outer petals have red centers outlined in yellow, while the interior petals are mostly yellow with red speckling.
More tulips have opened up today. Some surprises amongst them. I wonder if I cross pollinated different colors if they would make seed pods?

Lilium lancifolium clones itself in an unusual way: it makes bulbils in the leaf axils (as well as bulblets below ground). Bulbils are aerial, miniature bulbs that are dislodged by raindrops & germinate to form clones of the source plant. Few lilies do this. #Liliaceae #clone #botany 🌾🧪🌱
