A close-up macro photo of two net-winged beetles (family Lycidae), likely of the genus Eros, mating on a bright green leaf. The beetles have black, ridged elytra with a subtle grid-like texture and vivid orange markings on their thoraxes and along the edges of their wing covers. Their long, segmented antennae curve forward in a jagged, almost comb-like fashion. The scene captures fine detail, from the beetles’ jointed legs to the slight glisten on the leaf’s surface, evoking the intimacy of the moment and the vivid contrast between their dark bodies and the green backdrop.
This net-winged beetle pair (Lycidae, likely Eros) were having a moment. Many in this family are toxic and advertise it with bold colors. Not that it stops the giant ape with the flashy camera from interrupting.

By the way, Calopteron larvae are gregarious. Here's a fantastic pic of Calopteron reticulatum pupae by @coreyhusic.bsky.social. #coleoptera #beetle #insect #lycidae www.inaturalist.org/observations...

#Platerodrilus larvae of the #Lycidae #Coleoptera make me happy :D A man may go into the forest to look at fungi..... but when the diversity is so thicc why not a cheeky bug shot or 2 as a treat? It is wild to think a bug as "boring" as a net winged beetle, hatches from this delightful monster!
Plateros sp. achei 3 hoje! é a primeira vez que eu encontro besouros licidios na minha vida e estou mt feliz de achar eles! :)
