A large clump of lemony yellow mahonia blooms sits atop a plant. The individual blooms are oval and almost bead-like, clustered on multiple sprays that radiate out from a single central point. The leaves on the plant are waxy green with sharp points, similar to holly.
I managed to find some mahonia blooms on our property before the deer got to them. Apparently they're tasty as well as pretty! This is not a native plant. Several of them have volunteered in our woodland over the years, probably "planted" by the birds.

Mahonia. Against a blurry green background, a cluster of bright yellow flowers and greenish buds. When the garden was planted, 40 years ago, several species of Mahonia were included. This plant is a volunteer, and so is likely a hybrid.
Muscari x armeniacum, grape hyacinth cultivar. In the foreground one spike of flowers, each of which is a tiny cerulean bell hanging from the stem by a short pedicel. The lower ones are open; the opening has a narrow white rim.
Narcissus hybrid, daffodil. Tepals long and narrow, standing straight out, creamy yellow with a slightly darker midrib. Corona short, wide, ruffled, golden yellow. A bit similar to N. 'Jack Snipe' but larger. Blurry background of leaves and more flowers. Here and there a few raindrops.
Prunus hybrid, tiny yellow plums. Nearest us, a couple of twiggy branches, with many small white flowers typical of plums, fiver ovate petals, prominent white and gold stamens. Blurry background includes more of the tree and some sky and grass. This tree was either a volunteer, or the root stock took over. It bloom and fruits very early, before any of the other plums.
