A pair of Migrant Hawkers hang from a reed in the mating wheel position. They are medium-sized dragonflies. The female is mosaic patterned in brown, black and yellow, and has brown and greeny yellow eyes. The male has similar patterning, but on his abdomen most of the yellow markings are replaced by blue ones, and his eyes are blue and brown.

A pair of Banded Demoiselles copulating in the 'mating wheel' position. These are large damselflies with brilliant metallic colouration. The male is deep blue, with pale wings that have a thick dark blue band across them. The female is greeny-gold, with golden wings. She is quite young - evidenced by the fact that her eyes are still brown - and as she matures further her eyes will go black and her body and wing colouring will deepen.

A pair of Blue-tailed Damselflies copulating. They are small, slender damselflies, about 3cm long. The male is patterned in aqua blue and black, and has blue eyes. The female is primarily pale green and black, but she has brown eyes, and two purple spots in the space between them. Male and female both have two-tone grey and white wing spots. The position they are holding is called the mating wheel. The male is holding the back of the female's pronotal collar with claspers at the end of his abdomen, while she has bent her own abdomen around to engage her genitalia with the accessory genitalia below his second abdominal segment. This produces a kind of squashed heart shape. Both parties are clinging to the edge of an iris leaf at the edge of a lake.
