The very first thing
I heard this morning
Was spontaneous laughter
Brief, yet
Warm and welcoming
It possessed the sense of rarity
In these troubled times
I wrapped it around me
An early contender for highlight
Of the day
On a grey sky morning.

against a background of bare limbed and needle covered trees, a brown wooden peace pole rises, proclaiming in black letters/ideogram in four languages, two of which are visible, May Peace Prevail On Earth
We, living here by a sea that touches all people,
can learn to listen for stillness on the water and lean in to see the ripple effect
of just one little seed of #peace, dropped by each of us.

A cinematic wide shot of a rugged Cumbrian fell at dawn. The first amber rays of sun hit a jagged limestone outcrop, contrasting against deep violet shadows. Wisps of morning mist cling to the valley floor below, rendered in a hyper-realistic style with a focus on the gritty texture of the lichen-covered stone.
*“Soft light breaks / On hard stone / And the day begins / Alone.”*
Mornings in the Lakes are different.
32 Days until launch.

Motes
So busy in a beam of light
The motes, they float and dance
And inwardly I feel like them
In my early morning trance
Beams of light that mesmerize
Specks of dust in lines
I stare at them for ages
In search of hidden signs.

Gratitude
When the penniless farmer
Was gifted two books
By a friend
He responded with produce
Which was a turnip for the books.

At last, the sage thinks, a day as gloomy
as his mood: grey skies loom, even the green
grass is failing, this late in the year.
He pours tea and thinks, maybe now
I can get some real thinking done.

Active, Where?
I life an active life
Each day I
Race against the clock
Run for cover
Jog my memory
Toss away my worries
Move obstacles
Reach for the stars
Spin my yarns
Remove doubts
Strike a happy mood
Shuffle paper
And now I've jumped to a conclusion.

Why isn't wand written as wond?
-Don't get me started
I can go way beyond
What's the go with wander and wonder?
I mean, during a storm I don't listen to thonder!
These words make me wunder...

Do not lose your song
When the sorrows of the wider world pile up at your door
Do not lose your song
Every bird in the forest contributes to the morning chorus
Do not lose your song.

Rainy mornings go well with Leontia Flynn and her poetry. (poem from Taking Liberties which is an excellent title. And book) #morningpoem 💡#booksky
“Morning” Last night, like all the other nights here, was fading from black into a port wine dark and then deep blue that hung until the spark on the pilot caught, and without a fuss, the pot put on, slowly built up, because the morning needs, to throw off sleep, the bark of coffee, to wake up the day, the park down there street, the cars, light the city’s buzz. Ignition ritual like the others. Then, just for an instant—or maybe two— those blue gas clouds leapt neon red and the stratosphere behind them bled warning blue—high noon blue—the sky seared through, the trees and street left below to smother
Good morning. #Morning #Poetry #morningpoem #sonnet
Ten cats in the piazza this evening
Curled up
Sleeping in the shadows
Five Russian sailors in the ristorante
Thick necks
Heads like dented buckets
Two glasses of sweet Malvasia
-A night for numbers.

Let’s start the day with random #words!
Billowing, soft, cradled against
These wicker baskets
I never wanted to stay small
So I became an adult
And I’ve never wanted anything
But to be small again

Happy International Poetry Day to those celebrating. I do not have my physical library with me these days so I post from my iphone’s one. 🙂
Read a poem today. And tomorrow. A good habit.

this cracked-mirror morning,
slapped into a corner
& chilled to the bone
is all I’ve got
to offer you -
& I hope
it’ll be enough.

Roses are red
Violets are violet
You say I’m pedantic
I say “Exactly what do you mean by pedantic?”
