Just one Willow Warbler among 25 Chiffchaffs ringed at @btobirds.bsky.social #NunneryLakes yesterday. Sadly, now an uncommon species here outside of Thetford and King’s Forests. What are we doing to our world?

Sorry Rob, I've been off Bsky for a while, mostly due to hand surgery badly timed for the best part of summer. Here is S. morio from @btobirds.bsky.social #NunneryLakes last weekend; length 8.2mm, membrane pale and rostrum beyond middle coxae; from Green Alkanet. My 3rd local record.

It may not be a coastal migrant-magnet, but I'm lucky that I can walk my patch from home. 15 #BirdTrack lists so far in Sept: Green Sandpiper every time, 3 Whinchat, Swift 13/9, Marsh Harrier, Woodlark, 13 Kingfisher recs, 2 each of Great White Egret & Hobby. #lowcarbonbirding #NunneryLakes #birding

Surely *one* of the migrant birds that arrived in East Anglia over the last 72 hours will have been dropped into the #NunneryLakes by the pre-dawn rain?! 🙏 Pretty sure the 6 Green Sandpipers were already here...

A great Knot find by @arcanelove.bsky.social at
@btobirds.bsky.social #NunneryLakes yesterday evening (not to be confused with a Great Knot find)!

As usual, the local Lapwings were intolerant of anything different.

Well a new platform and a blank canvas. I've been going through some photos and collating records from the summer. Here is Emblethis denticollis, abundant at @btobirds.bsky.social #NunneryLakes this July. Only three records on the NBN Atlas and a handful more on iRecord

The re-meandered stretch of River Little Ouse @_BTO #NunneryLakes is a watery #chalkstream wonderland of willows, Alders, forgetmenot & the occasional Greater Water Dock, alternating narrow fast flowing channels, with wider shallows, deeper pools & tree-formed shady caves. 12/13

Several small Pike in re-meandered stretch of River Little Ouse upstream of Thetford @BTO #NunneryLakes. In this quiet chalk stream paradise, they were very relaxed & approachable.

Planned to survey @_BTO Nunnery Lakes y'day, but pea soup (+ Broad-leaved Pondweed) (angler: "worst for 20 yrs", like this for 2 months) so swam 1km up adjacent Little Ouse, then dip in 3rd Lake S (14.9°C) & saw dead Canada Goose - hope not #BirdFlu. #MySwim #NunneryLakes

In @_BTO #NunneryLakes water plants biding their time: Water Mint? Forgetmenot? Canadian Waterweed? Yellow Water-lily.
Plenty Swan? Mussels.
Glorious to be back in the water for 1st time since Red Sea in Nov - blue sky & calm the same but water 20°C colder! #wildflowerhour

Some fine Ganoderma brackets @_BTO Nunnery Lakes yesterday - the sign boards say Artist's Bracket are there.
Am guessing lower left is Alder Bracket (Mensularia radiata) & l. right Blushing Bracket (Daedaleopsis confragosa)?

Great to be back in #Chalkstreams this (partially) sunny autumn afternoon, after glass cut my knee open at this bridge on our last swim. Swam upstream 2/3 km beyond outflow pipe (from pumping station?), under a few fallen & overhanging trees. #NunneryLakes #Thetford #Norfolk 4/4

Makes me wish I’d found these 3 Spotted Redshank @RSPBLakenheath in the Brecks today, before twitching/ticking the one at @_BTO #nunnerylakes last week. 😹 #neversatisfied

A good choice to do the weekly shop in Thetford today. A short diversion to, and a bit of a run around @_BTO #nunnerylakes eventually saw my #217 Brecks ✅ in the shape of this gorgeous Spotted Redshank. Thanks to @NeilCalbrade for find and directions.
