We're excited to announce the beta-release of #RELION-5.1! π₯³ This release has important updates on our #amyloid processing pipeline, as described in this preprint: doi.org/10.64898/202... There are also some tweaks for #teamtomo.

Oh wow, this is π€― amazing: ~3-fold acceleration of running #relion on A100 GPUs for realistic single-particle refinement by the group of Guangwen Yang at @tsinghuauniversity.bsky.social
.
What a fantastic example of #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience, literally! π

Below (by @landerlab.bsky.social) is the 2nd #cryosparc recipe on @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social in a month. I remain worried about closed-source software affecting progress in #cryoEM. We should develop new algorithms instead!

In addition to just thinking the work is cool, I'm really proud of the symbiotic relationship teamtomo.org has developed with @bronwynalucas.bsky.social lab over the past year while they built an extensible implementation of 2DTM

To all #ChlamyDataset enthusiasts, here is a script that lets you directly import the pre-processed results from EMPIAR-11830 into #RELION v5 for subtomogram averaging:

Cool Napari plugin from @bwmr.bsky.social's that makes it easier to select specific membranes or groups of membranes that are output from @lorenzlamm.bsky.social's MemBrainπ§ π€ program (playing with MemBrain's connected components). Nice one! #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience π§ͺπ§Άπ§¬π¬
This sounds cool!

This is great to hear! π #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience
A few months ago, I heard from someone inside DeepMind that they were working hard on making the code suitable for release. I think it is too early to doubt them, and am still optimistic the code will get released soon.

Please note that this is not new: it basically is Bayesian Polishing from #RELION. Academics invent these algorithms, which get picked up by commercial companies. This is great, as #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience, but don't forget where it all came from.

Oh wow, this is BIG: #MotionCor3 and #AreTomo2 for #cryoEM single-particle analysis and #teamtomo are now open-source!! Thank you Shawn Zheng and colleagues at the
Chan Zuckerberg Imaging Institute.

And still leaning heavily on your open-source CTFFIND-4.1 program for CTF estimation! #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience π
We're pleased to announce that #RELION5 is now available for beta testing! π₯³π₯³π₯³ Download it for free from github.com/3dem/relion/...

The #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience code can already be downloaded from the link below. However, it may be worth waiting another week or so, when we release #RELION5 for easier installation and full integration in its GUI.
This brings me an enourmous amount of joy. Thanks @SjorsScheres @biochem_fan & team. #OpenSoftwareAcceleratesScience
