Image of The Ship Inn, which is located just across the High Street from the Bridge Inn, where Louise Philippe stayed when he escaped out of France. In 1824 the publican of the Ship Inn was convicted for leaving soldiers of the 12th Lancers out in the cold. He had refused to get out of bed to let them in! The pub now advertises Sky sports.
The White Hart, just down the High Street from The Ship Inn. This building looks like a classic pub, with light brick bottom half, arched windows, and red brick upper floor. It has been moved back from its original location to allow cars on the High Street. It was the site of a food riot in 1795 when soldiers of the Oxfordshire Militia mutinied and raided local establishments of their grain
