As expected this was a close game between two talented teams who battled out a tight first quarter, though Rainey looked to have the early advantage in terms of territory and possession.

These two schools, the best two schoolgirls sides in Ireland, have been pushing each other to excel over the years and their hard work, and the skills they have individually developed, culminated in a classic final of celebration and heartache at Stormont on Wednesday evening.

4XI Cup: Sullivan Upper 1 Royal School Armagh 0 Semi Final I caught up with the Ulster Schoolgirls 4XI Cup semi final between Sullivan Upper and The Royal School Armagh at Edenvilla Sports Centre, Portadown, on Saturday morning. It was a great game between two team with stacks of skills and tons of commitment which had everyone watching fully invested in his "Thrilla in Edenvilla" right up to the final whistle. A fantastic start to my Saturday coverage.

Such is the dominance of Ulster Schoolgirls Hockey in Ireland these provincial semi finals are probably of a higher standard than the All Ireland Finals next month and it was a pleasure to cover four class sides in the two semi finals.

In a lively encounter Sullivan looked to have the better of the first quarter with Lilly Menary to the fore in defence and attack. Lilly Menary had a strong game for Sullivan However Armagh were first to get on the score board, somewhat against the run of play, when Lily Chambers converted an excellent cross from Cadence Gillespie to give Armagh a 1 - 0 lead at half time.

You have to feel some sympathy for BRA, indeed any side, who had to face the all conquering Armagh in the early rounds of the Senior Cup but the home side had a bright opening quarter and looked dangerous on the break.

Gibson Cup: Methodist College 3XI 1 The Royal School Armagh 3XI 0 Quarter Final On Wednesday afternoon The Royal School Armagh 3XI were the visitors to a sunny, warm Pirrie Park to face Methodist College 3XI in a Gibson Cup Quarter Final Tie. Both sides were dangerous on the break in the 1st quarter but neither side could make an early breakthrough. Armagh shaded territory and possession, as the quarter ended 0-0.
