Photo: in a nearly monochrome landscape, a steel deck arch bridge crosses a narrow gorge under a sheltering, muted blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds. Notes: laid a desaturated version of the original color photo over the original version, then reduced the desaturated layer's opacity to 75%. What made this work (if it works) is the clear dividing line between the original's very vibrant sky (now muted) and the desaturated version's fairly shallow departure from the desert tones of the original.
