A very useful if sobering report. #Biosecurity is mentioned as a vital conservation measure for #AtlanticPuffin, #ManxShearwater, #EuropeanStormPetrel, #Leach'sStormPetrel, #RoseateTern, #CommonTern & #ArcticSkua breeding sites, helping to prevent colonisation or reinvasion by invasive predators

From May until August #RoseateTerns are at the breeding and nesting colonies. Once the young can migrate the seabirds fly away to their winter habitats. There is still a mystery surrounding where these birds spend January through to April.

#RoseateTern are often found sharing a nesting colony with #CommonTerns. There are only three colonies found on small islands off #NovaScotia. Breeding pairs only raise one egg per season. Gulls prey upon nesting areas reducing population growth. novascotia.ca/natr/wildlif...

A thrilling discovery captured on camera: a rare group of threatened Roseate Terns, initially thought to be a Common Terns perched on some rocks in the Azores.

The joy of photo analysis! In the field, I thought: Common Terns. At home, I saw the brilliant white wings and realized: the much rarer Roseate Tern! It's amazing what you can see when you have a still moment to truly look. A happy mistake from my Azores trip.

This four year old (ringed as a chick on #CoquetIsland) #RoseateTern was performing brilliantly at #Seaforth on Saturday, calling its head off, display flighting and trying to impress the local #CommonTerns by offering fish. What I would give for it to be joined by another.... 🙏 #seabirds #terns

A real highlight of 2024 was high breeding productivity for @rspbengland.bsky.social #CoquetIsland #RoseateTern colony. They & other #seabirds took a battering from #AvianInfluenza in 2022 & 2023 so to see this resilience & recovery in one of our rarest breeders was great to see. #RSPBEcology

Always a joy to see #RoseateTern on the #Seaforth patch. These two put on a great show, lots of calling, high display flighting and bullying roosting Knot! Both unringed & likely third calendar-year birds doing a bit of exploring. They'd be more than welcomed back next spring. 🤞
