Okay, so I rewrote a scene entirely and although I’m quite happy with it, the previous version - of relief and slight contentment - was tragic in its own way so now I gotta sit with them both.

I wrote a decent amount last week! My main focus was editing The Witch of the Wood. Here's a snippet from a new paragraph I added! Milo entering the cursed forest...

Excerpt of Cassie's WIP "By Any Other Name". Text reads:

Rose was pulled from her thoughts by Vatia’s voice calling her name. She turned to face her superior, hoping she wasn’t about to be summoned to another private room.

“Here,” the older woman said, holding out a silver coin. Rose stared at it uncertainly, and Vatia sighed, pulling Rose’s hand out and placing the coin in her palm. “He left this for you, along with his thanks,” she explained.

Rose stared down at it, still processing the meaning of the shining thing in her hand.

“Is that her first tip?” exclaimed Mirelia, one of the younger bath slaves. “And it’s silver?”

“Who got a silver tip?” asked another slave, poking her head through the door.

“It’s Rose!” gasped yet another voice, and soon she was surrounded by jostling figures eager to catch a glimpse of a coin rarely seen by slaves, worth twenty copper ones.

“What did you do?” asked Ganuta, a pleasure slave who’d taken Rose under her wing when she first arrived.

Rose blushed. “I only helped to wash his back, and then I massaged him.”

“I was just in the massage room, and I didn’t see you there,” Ganuta replied, brows knit.

“We were in a private room,” Rose admitted, her blush deepening.

Beside her, Halit giggled. “So that’s how you got a silver. Let him have a taste, did you?”

Ganuta cast a meaningful look at the gossipy youngster. “Don’t say such nonsense. She’s still in training.”

“No.” Anna’s voice breaks. “I’m the one who should be sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. It wasn’t fair to you.” Her eyes shift to the floor. “And it was my fault anyway. I left the lantern on. I gave you the alcohol.”
That almost knocks me over. Anna gave Lainey the alcohol? Did she forget about what drinking does to her? About the time she got drunk and tried to cut her own hair with scissors, but ended up slicing her cheek instead. I can still see the scar. A white line right by her left ear.
“You what?” I ask Anna. “Why on earth would you—”
“Because,” Anna mumbles, her eyes not meeting mine. She picks at a hangnail on her thumb until there’s a tiny bit of blood. “I was being stupid.” The next part is what I never expected her to say aloud. “And I didn’t want everyone to hate me.”
“Why would they hate you?” Lainey says. “You’re an angel. You’re like the most lovable human being on the planet.”
“I’m not actually.” Tears are sliding down Anna’s cheeks now. “I’m not a good person, Lainey.” She covers her mouth with her hand, stifling a sob. “I was the only one besides Nathan who knew where his parents kept the alcohol. I wasn’t going to do it at first, but I guess that doesn’t matter now, does it?”
She’s right. It doesn’t matter.

I've struggled with writing this week because I didn't know how to make the current scene stand out. I think I've figured it out, though, thanks to some dedicated brainstorming time yesterday. The superhero dram-com is about to get weird.

Excerpt of Cassie's WIP "By Any Other Name". Text reads:

He lowered his head to rest his forehead on hers, feeling her pulse beat against his fingers. “Oh, Rose,” he murmured. “You please me so much, I fear losing control of myself when you’re near.”

She inhaled sharply, but her voice was steady. “You needn’t hold back, master. I’m meant to be used however you desire.”

How could she speak of herself like that? It ignited his loins, and he groaned. “You shouldn’t say such things, Rose,” he said, voice husky. “You don’t know what I want to do with you.”

Her breaths were faster now, and he could nearly feel the rise and fall of her chest. “How do you want me, master?”

“I want to see your lovely lips around my cock again,” he confessed. “You did so well, if I didn’t know better, I’d think it wasn’t your first time.”

She brought her hands to his knees, her touch so light it ghosted his flesh. “I trained for years,” she explained softly. “I watched others and practiced with wooden tools.”

“Is that why you were able to take me so deeply?” he asked her, remembering the feel of her throat against the head of his member.

“Yes, master,” she answered. Her hands moved up his thighs, making his cock pulse.

“Do you mean to tell me, that if I opened your pretty mouth and fucked you deep and hard, it wouldn’t hurt you?”

“No, master,” she murmured, her hands sliding up to reach his groin.

It was too much for him. He lowered his lips to hers, catching them in his, surprised and gratified as she returned his kisses with her own. She opened her lips and he plunged his tongue into her mouth, making her moan. Their tongues circled each other until he pulled back, panting for breath.

"I'll do my best to negotiate," Eureka said.
He rubbed at a spot between his right shoulder and his neck, until Baltan batted his hand away. "Let me."
After a moment's hesitation, Eureka crouched down to let Baltan work his fingers into the stiff muscles. He was tense, down to the bone. "I know this won't be easy. I didn't mean to imply it would be," Baltan said.
"I know you didn't mean anything by it, but it's a sore subject." Some of the tension was released with a small sigh. "I don't know a lot about Illdresil Gera, other than the stories my grandparents used to tell me. How did they put it…” ...
"We still need to go, to see if they are still there, and warn them if nothing else," Baltan said. "It's just a matter of figuring out how to do that without getting chased off."
"Or chasing them off," Eureka added.
Baltan patted Eureka's shoulder, having worked out at least one knot. He hoped it would make some difference, however small. "I'll do some research at the library. And we should be careful about what we say on the phone, if we use it again before this is all over. I don't know exactly who or what he's using to monitor us."

Text reads:

He released her and was silent for a while. “I didn’t mean to frighten you, Rose. I’m not angry with you; I’m angry that you were hurt because of me.”

She opened her mouth to protest, but he put a finger to her lips. “Don’t ask me not to blame myself, and don’t say your injuries are nothing.” She closed her mouth and nodded silently, and he withdrew his finger. “I’ll call for a doctor to examine you. Be truthful with her and do as she tells you.”
“Please don’t trouble yourself, master,” she said. “I’m fine.”

“That,” he replied sharply. “That is what you mustn’t do when the doctor asks you how you feel.”

She hung her head, embarrassed and unused to being the center of attention. Slaves served their masters, not the other way around. “Please, master,” she said softly. “I’m only a briatuna.”

“Even so,” he replied, “you’re worth a great deal to me, Rose.”

She took a breath, her confusion clearing. Of course he wouldn’t want such a valuable asset as herself to be harmed or damaged.

“Forgive me, master,” she murmured. “I didn’t mean to question you.”

Unexpectedly, she felt his hand atop her head. He began to pet her hair, as one might do with a frightened animal. “Did Gallio anger easily?” he asked her gently.

“Yes, master.” She swallowed back the memories of her first year with him, traveling south to Caegis to live in his home, being punished when she wasn’t learning Enerian fast enough for his liking.

He interrupted her thoughts with another question. “I see you aren’t wearing your new sandals. Do they not fit well?”

Rose flushed. “No, master, they do!” she assured him. “I just – I forgot about them.”

He chuckled, patting her head. “I told Camilia to get a few more venusti for you. Is there anything else you need?”

She shook her head. “No, master.”

“Well, if you ever do, ask Camilia.”

“I will, master.”

“Good. Now go back to your room and rest until the doctor arrives. Don’t argue,” he added, and she blushed.

“Yes, master.”

She watched his prone body, squinting at the distance to make out any rise and fall of his chest, counting in her head.
At five, he was still as the grave. She spat in desperate disgust, more eager to wipe the experience from her lips than the poison itself.

Excerpt of Cassie's WIP "By Any Other Name," from Taireus' POV:

Taireus glanced over at her once more, seeing a small frown marring her pretty face. Before he could tumble into another long bemusement over its meaning, she spoke up.

“Is the food not to your liking, master?” she asked softly.

Gods, the spark of fire that coursed through him, to hear her call him that way.

“No, Rose,” he managed to reply. “The food is acceptable.”

“Then are you no longer hungry, master?”

“No, I could eat more,” he replied unhelpfully.

“Then…” she began uncertainly, “is there something that troubles you, master?”

“You don’t have any shoes, do you?” he asked in return, watching as her frown deepened in confusion.

“No, master,” she answered, her voice betraying worry. “Only my sandals from the bathhouse.”

Why was she concerned? Did she think he’d be angry with her for that, when it was his responsibility to clothe and feed her now?

“Go with Caius this afternoon and have him buy you a pair,” he told her.

Her eyes widened. “Out-outside, master?”

“Yes, where else?” he retorted, amused.

There it was again, a blush rising sweetly across her face. How lovely she looked, all flush and flustered.

Today’s #saturdaysnippet takes the pre-apocalypse roadtrip down a dark turn after Lucifer and Flit realize where they are in the order of events…they don’t have the time either of them hoped for to explore. #fantasyindiemarch #vitapersequens #books #paranormalbooks #booksky📚💙

Oh lordy, this needs a lot of revision its so rough and stilted.
Im not even sure I like Victor and Jack’s impression of each other. We’ll see where this story goes and how I’ll need them to interact.😅

"All right, enjoy your shower, you'll have to turn on the rack if you want your towels warm, I forgot too." He noted, getting a groan from the god. The blanket stretching out revealing the bed head the god was sporting, just before the tanuki shut the door.

A #SaturdaySnippet for y'all! I've more been editing this week than writing, but here's a little look at how #PoweredNovel is coming along. One of my favorite exchanges I've written :)

#SaturdaySnippet
I wrote a bit of my femdom WIP, and wrote the moment during morning pancake baking when there's foreshadowing that things are going to turn to shits between Nic and his domme (and wife). (cw abuse)
I was surprised by this scene, and have yet to see what's to come.

Hello #SaturdaySnippet! I have been away from my girls from a week because of looming deadlines for other things, but here's a scene from my most recent chapter. This has expanded from draft two because thanks to @khonri.com's #Septopolis, I know much more about that other part of the world now.

Screenshot of a Word document. The text reads:

Ganuta lifted the simple garment over Rose’s head, smoothing out the front and back to cover most of her. Then she tied the cord at her waist, tugging the cloth to lie pleasingly to the eyes. She placed her hands on Rose’s shoulders, smiling encouragingly. “Lord Murena is a good man, and he’ll be a good master to you,” she assured her.

Rose tried to return her mentor’s smile, but it faltered, and she felt her eyes begin to glaze over with unshed tears.

“None of that,” Ganuta chided her gently. “You’re the best I’ve ever trained and you’re going to a good household. This is not the end, only the beginning.”

Rose nodded, blinking rapidly to keep her tears from spilling down her face.

“Remember all that I’ve taught you, and you’ll do well,” Ganuta said, then looked over to Vatia, who was holding a small dish.

Bathhouse slaves rarely used cosmetics, partly because of the humid air, but also because it was generally frowned upon for slaves to paint their faces. But for special moments like this, it was important that they look their best. And so Vatia carefully applied the red color to Rose’s eyelids, her lips, and even lightly on her cheeks.

“There,” she said, and Rose opened her eyes. “You look divine. He won’t be able to keep his hands off you.”

Rose blushed, then remembered something important. “Do you have any dolphium to spare? I don’t know if he’ll wait before….” She blushed again, but Ganuta nodded seriously.

“I have some. Come, follow me.”
