As GMC Red beats each other up, Old Bridge and South Plainfield tussle in Friday matchup at Fred Cole Field With the exception of Edison - which is playing some excellent baseball right now - the entire Red Division in the Greater Middlesex Conference has been beating itself up. After the first-place Eagles at 7-1, the next five games are no more than one or two games over or under .500 as we near the end of Week Three of the season.

Top four stay the same, led by Immaculata, Ridge, in Bellamy & Son Paving Week 2 baseball rankings There was much more stability in the Bellamy &amp; Son Paving Top Ten for Week 2 of the high school baseball season, with the top four teams remaining right where they are. There was minimal movement below that, with Monroe rising and Watchung Hills joining the rankings after a 3-0 week, knocking out Bernards. Immaculata (5-1) holds at No. 1 after 1 2-1 week down in Florida playing teams from around the country.

No. 5 Edison forces extras, then walks it off on Lutz single in 8th to top No. 7 South Plainfield 5-4, in wild finish to battle of unbeatens Early on, even though the home team scratched across a run in the first, it looked like No. 5 Edison and No. 7 South Plainfield would be tangled in a pitchers' duel on a beautiful Saturday morning on the red turf along the Boulevard of Eagles. GMC Boys’ Basketball Coaches name 2025-26 All-Division, All-Conference honorees; Colonia’s Rodriguez named Coach of the Year As county championship week gets underway, the 33 boys' basketball coaches in the Greater Middlesex Conference met to pick their All-Division teams, with ten student-athletes ultimately earning All-GMC Honors from eight different schools, an example of how wide open this season has been in the league. Metuchen claims lone upset in GMC Tournament boys’ round of 16, while Wojcik gets 200th win for Sayreville, Vick sets new personal best in East Brunswick win Things went mostly in line with the seeds on Thursday night in the boys' basketball GMC Tournament First Round, as seven higher seeds were victorious and moved on to Saturday's quarterfinals. The only upset was a mild one in terms of numbers, but a big one for the small schools, as 9th-seed and White National Division Champion knocked off 8th-seed Old Bridge on the road, 60-44.

As expected, St. Joseph-Metuchen earns top seed in boys’ GMC Tournament For the second time in three seasons, St. Joseph-Metuchen has claimed the top seed in the GMC Tournament. The Falcons are 20-1, their lone loss coming at South Plainfield, 55-54, on January 27th. The Tigers got the sixth-seed in the tournament. No. 8 South Plainfield gets outstanding D, scoring from Vaca, Bena in first win over Colonia since 2005, snapping 23-game skid It was mid-fourth quarter. South Plainfield's Justin Vaca was looking to make a pass, and he lobbed the ball with his right hand toward the basket. Was it an alley-op? A pass to someone cutting in the back door? It ended up going through the basket, a three-pointer to boot. Battle of two young teams as JP Stevens girls visit South Plainfield in second meeting this year Young teams can sometimes do unpredictable - or, at least, uncharacteristic - things. Such are the growing pains the South Plainfield girls' basketball team is experiencing on a squad with four seniors, but no juniors, having lost three starters to graduation. Well, JP Stevens can do them one better. The Hawks lost four starters to graduation and have just two seniors on the roster, with two sophomores and a freshman in the starting five.

Montgomery holds at No. 1 despite first loss, but there’s much shuffling elsewhere in Bellamy & Son Paving Boys’ Top Ten for Week 4 Only three teams - Montgomery, Somerville and Immaculata - held their ground this week in the latest Bellamy &amp; Son Paving boys' basketball Top Ten, the first of the New Year. Montgomery (8-1) holds at No. 1 after a 2-1 week. In their own Cougar Holiday Classic, they beat Princeton 70-33 on Monday, then North Hunterdon 71-47 on Tuesday. Monty took its first loss of the season Saturday, 53-51, falling to Linden in the Warrior Classic down at Manasquan.

Westfield’s Jordan Walsh comes up big down the stretch, grabs final Bellamy & Son Paving Player of the Week honor in 2025 Jordan Walsh is no stranger to being a go-to guy on his team. After all, he was the Borden's Baller of the Year last season, representing the Westfield Blue Devils, a proud Union County program with a lot of history. Group 3 playoff chase: Summit, Somerville hold top-seeds, but nothing’s guaranteed; Cranford sits in the middle of the pack but could move up Group 3 only finds two teams from the Big Central in playoff contention, although a third may be able to jump into that fray. There aren't too many Group 3 schools to begin with, and a couple of teams with 2-3 records sit well outside the playoffs in the North Group 3 supersection. A late run and going 2-1 of either team down the stretch could get Carteret (24th) and North Plainfield (21st) back in the conversation, with South Plainfield at 2-4, but much closer just two spots out of the top 16.
