I chose this one because this is a place that I had long wished to visit, in May 2025 I finally made it. This is the Isle of Staffa, which is just off the coast of Mull. The photo shows the massive basalt columns that the island is famous for and 'Boat Cave' (one of several caves on the island including the world famous Fingal's Cave). On the horizon and island called 'The Dutchman's Cap can just be made out.

The blue waters of the North Atlantic lap against the rock of the shore. In the centre a block of vertical, hexagonal columns supports a mass of darker hexagonal basalt that appears to fan out much like a tree. Above that there is a band of ordinary basalt which is capped by a massive set of hexagonal columns that runs across the width of the picture.
This week's #AlphabetChallenge is #WeekRforRock and it doesn't come much more rocky than this...

The shot is taken from a boat looking along the line of the basalt columns the fringe the island, there is a dark gap where Fingal's cave cuts into and beneath the rock. Near the entrance to the cave wave action has created a platform and worn the rocks smooth. In the far distance on across the smooth waters the island known as 'Dutchman's Cap' punctuates the horizon beneath a cloudless blue sky.
