Photograph of a streetside planter containing some shrubs and decorated with ceramic tiles. Each tile displays a complex geometric design in white, blue, green, red, and yellow glaze. They are arranged in such a way that a continuation of the pattern would show two-fold rotational symmetry, together with mirror symmetry in two orthogonal orientations.

Dutch tin-glazed wall-tile, high status decor in the late 16th century, discovered at the former refectory of St Nicholas Priory at 21 The Mint, Exeter.

After the dissolution priory buildings became Tudor townhouses.

📷 from a visit to the priory in 2024.

The impress of 'J&M' on a tile in Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian for #TilesOnTuesday. It's the mark of James IV and Margaret Tudor. The king had the Palace largely rebuilt as a gift for his new wife, who he married in 1503.

Understated but high quality monochrome tiling and marble. In Mouse's view this is one of the churches that the Victorian era got right and thank goodness, this is a very special place

Always fascinating to see who/what has stepped on #Roman tiles while they dried.
Left dog + shoeless human trod on these at Fishbourne @romanpalace.bsky.social in Sussex, southern Britannia.
And right, deer, dog, sheep/goat wandered through Brampton tilery up north in Cumbria.
