A screenshot of the live webcam in the IU greenhouse, where Wally the corpse flower is blooming! There are assorted other plants - a couple of trees, some ferns, some bamboo... but Wally is front and center. In a large terracotta pot, the flower is over 2 meters tall (NOT including the pot). The blossom is fluted in shape, and the "petals" are ridged in almost an accordion like way. The outsides are green, and the insides, which are now visible, are deep, deep purple. A light purple wrinkly spike with a blunt tip shoots up from the center, and makes up about half the height of the plant. Timestamp is 8:24 AM 6/28/2025. No one is visible on the cam, yet. It appears to be overcast outside, so there isn't any sun shining directly in, but the light is bright and soft. I can also guarantee that it is quite stinky in there! From what I remember from the 2016 bloom, it was a combination of decomposing meat smell and rotten egg smell. A bit more unpleasant than the volcanic smell in assorted places in Iceland, or the sulfuric smell from the "Pluto water" springs in French Lick, Indiana... but not unbearable.

Wally update!

He is looking quite magnificent, this morning! You can see the inside of the petals, now - it's dark purple. But, if it is like it was in 2016 (when I beheld his magnificence in person), when the sun shines through, he glows a beautiful red!

A screenshot of the live feed Webcam in the IU biology dept. greenhouse, which is filled with plants... but the focus (and light) are on a 2+ meter tall flower with rippled, fluted petals that are about halfway open, green on the outside. Rising from the center is a huge wrinkly purple shaft that tapers to a dull point. The part sticking up makes up about half the height of the giant stinky flower. Timestamp 11:58 pm 6/27/2025
