It sounded like a fiasco. I understand the concerns regarding potential disruption to the work of the lifeboat station but surely supervised access could have been arranged?
Here’s the account from the superb book ‘The Birds of Spurn’ by the late Andy Roadhouse.

Made the most of a dry day on Tuesday and caught up with the drake Bufflehead on Llyn Coron, Anglesey. Great to spend some more time observing this smart North American duck - a first record for the island. It looked quite at home with the local Goosander! #birdingwales #ukbirding #ukrarebirds

Here are my ropy photos of the small 'white cheeked' goose found by Dave Dack at Hauxley today. I find it a bit puzzling. It was small - about White-front size, although clearly a bit fatter and possibly a bit longer-boded. It was obviously short-necked #NEbirding #UKrarebirds 🧵
Would have been disrespectful not to post anything of the superb Killdeer, seen with @corpustydickie.bsky.social yesterday down in Ripley, Hants. @birdguides.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social #birds #ukrarebirds
Finally had a day free to catch up with the 1st-winter Lesser Yellowlegs on the River Clwyd. Popped by to see the female-type Black Redstart at Horton's Nose whilst I was over that way too. #BirdingWales #UKRareBirds #UKBirding
It would be interesting to do a deep search into historical photographs and specimens of UK, Ireland and European Black-throated Divers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Pacific Diver had occurred in the days before identification criteria and vagrancy potential was fully established.

Hooded Mergansers at New Hythe lakes today. Female (left) = brown eye + yellow in bill; male (right) = yellow eye and black bill. Presumably frozen out of smaller lake/pond somewhere. Unringed, fully-winged and confiding... @rarebirder.bsky.social @kentishplover.bsky.social #KentBirding #UKRareBirds
We moved to Aberdeenshire in June 2021. This greater yellowlegs at #RSPB Strathbeg on 28th September 2021 was the first bird I found after moving up. Thanks to Tim Marshall for the photo. I’ve been told there’s not been one in the UK since. #UKRareBirds #BirdingScotland

A Wild Goose Chase! 🪿
Set my alarm, ⏰ and rolled over - mistake.
Missed the Lincolnshire Snow Goose by minutes, then had to spend the next 4 hours searching for it. 🤨 Finally found it in the gloaming 🕓 with its Whooper Swan 🦢 friends.
My 1st in 18 years, hence my persistence. #UKRareBirds
Enjoyed watching this Penduline Tit tweezing out grubs from the reed mace at Aust Wetlands this morning. #UKbirding #UKrarebirds

Front cover of the book Rare Birds Day by Day, Poyser 1996, by Steve Dudley, Tim Benton, Pete Fraser and John Ryan. Cover shows a Siberian Rubythroat in the foreground and a Houbara Bustard in flight in the distance.
Wow! Love this. Some 29 years after the publication of our book, Rare Birds Day by Day, here is the social media equivalent!
