After the picture description, l have written a poem inspired by this scene. Our monochromatic picture has a soft, slightly blurred background that gives it a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere. In the foreground, sharply in focus, there is a metal mooring bollard fixed into a stone or concrete edge. The bollard is dark, sturdy, and slightly weathered, with bolts anchoring it in place. Its rounded top is lighter in colour, worn smooth, and marked with a dark circular spot. Around it, the ground is rough and textured, with patches of grass creeping along the edge. Beyond the bollard, the scene gently fades out of focus. A still canal stretches across the middle of the image, its surface smooth like glass. The water reflects the buildings on the opposite bank, creating a soft mirror image that blends into the ripples. Across the canal, a row of modern apartment buildings stands in muted tones. Their balconies and windows are visible but softened by the blur, making them feel distant and quiet. Above them, a cloudy sky hangs low, filled with layered, heavy clouds that add a sense of stillness and perhaps a hint of melancholy. The composition draws your attention first to the solid, grounded bollard, then lets your gaze drift into the softer, reflective distance of the water and buildings. And finally our picture is finished with a white border frame. And now for my poem. I call it…The world seems small. A quiet post beside the flow, Where passing boats once paused below, Now stands in stillness, worn and sure, A keeper of the calm and pure. The water holds a softened dream, Of distant walls and silvered gleam, While clouds press low in muted grey, And time drifts slowly, far away. No voices call, no footsteps near, Just echoes only memory hears And in that hush, the world seems small, Reflected, fading… yet holding all.
