Well that all changed today, this pair of fresh examples almost completely lacking color

2/11/25 Cumbria - Superficially resembling a Ballerina #Waxcap until you check the stipe and underside, the Jubilee Waxcap (Gliophorus reginae) is another rare #fungus with a good deal of charm, though this one is particularly scarce #fungi

Throwback to last autumn's #waxcap survey. Now we have 9 species recoerded in the perm pastures of Mount Stewart. In just 10 years we've gone from only one to 9 species through Regen-ag and grassland restoration.

Throwback to my first find of #hygrocybe splendidissima, the Splendid Waxcap, back in Nov. '24. Rightfully earned its name imo, but it took me smelling that typical honeylike odour once it was completely dried out to identify this one for certain...

Pink waxcap is also known as ballerina waxcap, and it's a very pretty little mushroom that starts out a typical cone shape but flattens as it ages. Sometimes the cap will split, leaving its pieces curled to expose its frilled gills. Reminds me of an axolotl!
