My love of nature comes first — my art is an act of devotion. From childhood, I’ve gathered small wonders and held them close. Even when I can’t linger outdoors, nature still finds me — in my studio, in memory, in making. Nature warms my heart. We are never truly apart.

On a winter wander, I met a mossy Loch Ness monster — dozing among fallen leaves, halfway between myth and moss.
No monster at all, but a living root, softened by mosses and lichens, sheltering small lives.
The woods are full of such wonders, if you walk slowly — and curiously enough. #WildWonder
I’m up with the song thrush, the robin… the pheasant! — clattering into the calm — in search of wild wonder and quiet treasures to share, as my Advent calendar windows into nature continue to open. I hope you’ll join me later to see what the 14th December holds. #WildWonder #DawnChorus
There’s something enchanting about fungi — rising quietly from hidden realms with old magic in their names. Yesterday’s candle-snuff find reminded me of the tiny tapers in my wild fairytale… a whisper to welcome more wonder into December. #WildWonder #Fairytale

Image 1 A close-up of candle-snuff fungi growing from a decaying piece of wood on the forest floor. The slender black stems are tipped with pale, powdery white, reaching upwards like tiny matchsticks or ghostly flames. Around them lie damp autumn leaves in shades of russet, copper and brown, softening the scene with woodland colour.
Image 2 A tight macro photograph of several candle-snuff fungi emerging from dark, decaying wood. Each thin black stem fades to a chalky white tip, contrasting against glossy brown beech leaves resting nearby. The fungi curve delicately upwards, resembling tiny extinguished candles among the wet leaf litter.
Daylight is snuffed out far too soon at this time of year…
So it made me smile to find candle snuff fungi standing in my path this afternoon — tiny winter sentinels said to glow faintly in the dark.
A small reminder that even when the light dips early, something quiet is still shining. #WildWonder

Beneath the golden glow of the Serengeti sun, a little monkey finds wisdom between the pages instead of the trees.
No hurry. Just curiosity, wonder, and the quiet joy of learning something new about the world.

A plum-toned Hairy Shieldbug (Sloe bug) with fine markings and banded legs, walking slowly across a weathered wooden studio surface, its body shaped like a miniature shield or knight’s armour.
Who should wander across my desk today but a Sloe bug (Hairy Shield-bug) — clad in plum-toned armour, walking with stately precision across the grain. A miniature knight of hedgerow and woodland edge. For a fleeting moment of wonder, leaf-littered paths and my timbered desk became one #WildWonder
Three drawings of the same twig done in three different styles labeled crisp, delicate and juicy. The last category, spicy, does not have an example. It has these handwritten words: direct, hands-on, prints, rubbings, samples and in parentheses: messy!
I signed up for the video version of the #wildwonder nature journaling conference. This was my first session. I feel like I should retry the top one because I don't think I achieved the goal. But the presenter was a pleasure and I enjoyed it. #sketch #naturesketch #drawing #naturejournaling
A woodland path thick with fallen coppery-red leaves winds through tall trees, their canopy still tinged with green and gold. The leaf-litter glows warmly against the cool grey light, as if the forest floor were smouldering with autumn’s embers.
On grey days, autumn’s leafy embers glow all the brighter.
The smouldering beauty of copper and crimson beech leaves, lighting the woodland floor —
flame on, autumn… you warm our hearts.

The very first session of #wildwonder this year was delightful. Practicing trees: birch trees through the seasons in watercolor. Sushma Hedge's examples reminded me of Bill Watterson. Really good reminder for me to loosen up!
This Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodious), was drinking in the sunrise! So Regal❤️

A large reddish brown Ceanothus Silk Moth sits on a blank sketchbook page. To the left, a sketchbook page is in progress, featuring illustrations of the moth.
A quiet start to the morning, spending an hour with this big beauty at the end of her life. #ceanothussilkmoth #naturejournaling #wildwonder
I was inspired by Wild Wonder Foundation's Day 24 Corvids #wildtober to draw a Celtic knot symbol for the Morrígan (although their Inktober is for nature journalers).

Look at what I found! I've heard that 100s of times since we started Rochester Ecology Partners as a seed or a leaf or a toad is pushed into my field of view. I love hearing it every time. It is an expression of wild wonder and who wouldn't want to experience that?
