Cold February wind
Clacking skeletal branches together
Trees shiver, naked
Amidst the white sheet of snow
Their roots buried in the darkness
Insulated and waiting for the signal
To grow.

graue Tauben,
graue Bäume,
graues Licht.
Und ein kleiner brauner Hund

I carved devotion
from the language of frost—
breath turning to ice
before it could warm.

I worshiped your absence
like snow worships silence—
cold and unyielding
even after the dawn.

“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”

Whiskey and the Winter Wind: A Slow Return to Self There was a time when the wind was kinder. Whiskey and the Autumn Wind was written in that in-between season—when the air still carried warmth, when loss felt survivable, when reflection arrived with falling leaves instead of ice. Those poems lingered in amber light and memory, in the slow burn of nostalgia and the ache of things passing naturally, as they always have.

Whiskey and the Winter Wind is a minimalist poetry collection exploring betrayal, solitude, whiskey, and resilience as autumn fades into winter and a man learns who remains when all else is gone.

Winter Is the Season That Knows My Name Essay by M. Allshouse

Winter doesn’t try to be anything it’s not—it doesn’t camouflage the bones. And neither do we, not when we’re writing from the place that winter opens in us.

Snow-covered hogweed seed heads stand against a pale winter sky. Each umbel carries rounded caps of fresh snow on fine radiating stems, creating a delicate, sculptural look. Soft blurred light in the background adds a gentle winter atmosphere.

Frosty or snowy mornings transform seed heads into crisp winter sculptures. John Clare conveys that sharp countryside cold in his poem Winter: “The small wind whispers through the leafless hedge, most sharp and chill, where the light snowy flakes rest on each twig.” #WinterPoetry

Here's the entire poem shhhh...

The Benediction of Snow
 By Glory Fink
When I smell snow in the air,
it awakens something pure and sanctified within me—
something that’s been sleeping all summer long—
and I feel myself becoming more wholly my Self again,
as if the heat and noise have burned away
and left me cleansed by silence.
 The air tastes of memories:
early mornings when frost laced the window glass,
when the world was still tender enough
 to believe in hope again.
And once again, I can breathe—
 deep into my chest,
all the way through my feet,
into the earth I stand upon.
 My ribs open;
I am a conduit between Air and Earth,
part of everything and all together.
Every breath becomes a prayer
 I didn’t know I was saying.
A hush gathers around me like a benediction,
 forgiving without words,
knowing I was trying all along.
Somewhere, a crow calls into the stillness,
 and I answer back—
 not with my voice,
but with the calmness inside me,
 finally remembering how to listen
to the stories the trees and wind
 have been whispering all along.

The first scent of snow calls the soul home. ❄️ Pause: take a three-count inhale and notice one memory that rises. Say it aloud, or keep it as your quiet companion 💙📚

I don’t believe the sun shine lovely and bright, when the frost seeps in and the chill becomes deep with in.
I don’t shine so bright when the chill is all I feel.
