On May 3, 1873 the cornerstone was laid for North Hall, the second building on Cal's campus and home of the humanities and social sciences. The upper floors were razed in 1917 as a fire hazard, but the basement was roofed over and used by the ASUC until 1923. Photo is from 1895.
