I forgot to tag this but it was intended as part of #AbleismAwareness.

Autism as a superpower is simply a version of inspiration porn. Yes, an autistic person may excel in something and impress everyone around them. They're still human though and will need support elsewhere - and that's...human.

What is Disablism?

Disablism is more conscious discrimination - mockery, slurs or abuse - due to the belief that disabled people are inferior to non-disabled people.

It overlaps with ableism, and derives from it. The nuance can be slight and some use ableism for both instances.

What is Ableism?

Ableism is usually defined as discrimination that favours non-disabled people.
It's a conscious or unconscious belief that not being disabled is inherently "better" than being disabled. Non-disabled people's needs are prioritised because they're seen as "normal".

I'm going to try to do this (AuDHD permitting!)

#AbleismAwareness isn't intended to compete with #AutismAwareness or #AutismAcceptance, but to complete it.

A better understanding of ableism would've been helpful to me at the beginning of my autism journey. Maybe others will find this helpful too.

I want to work. I want to earn. But rules cap me, electronic verification watches me, my “payment” is food and a bathroom. Internalized ableism? I felt it young, no words for it. I’m disabled, angry, and sick of being told to just be thankful . ✊💥💔

FREQUENT REMINDER. It's bad enough I have to keep posting this meme because of #TheCultOfTrump Let's be honest, I expect hate speech from them. But it's even worse when I have to post it because of so-called "progressives" who really should know better. #Ableism #AbleismAwareness

A cartoon in the style of The Simpsons shows a man in a wheelchair sitting with a neutral expression. He is flanked by two animated characters offering exaggerated praise. On the left, a smiling woman gestures enthusiastically with a speech bubble that reads, “You’re so brave!” On the right, a tall man stands proudly with a speech bubble saying, “You’re such an inspiration!” The background is a simple light blue, keeping the focus on the characters’ exaggerated reactions.

Ever been called “brave” just for existing? That’s inspiration porn — when disabled folks get applause for doing normal stuff. We don’t need praise. We need equality.

Black background. White text: Disability rights exist because disabled people fought for them, not because society willingly included us. The systems we rely on are still shaped by ableism, and the fight for accessibility, respect, and equality isn’t over. @PermissionToBeCurious @ToBeCurious.bsky.social
