At least 3 Jack Snipe were present on the patch today, along with 55 Common Snipe. Other species included 6 Goosander, Pochard and 2 Great White Egret. The only new species for the year was a sad, solitary Yellowhammer (#132) in Seckington. #peakybirders #patchbirding #thermalbirding #alvecotepools
1st post. Alvecote Mill Pool, for no reason other than it's fab...

A new patch tick was a major reprieve from a horrible period of βblack dogβ this afternoon. A first-winter MEDITERRANEAN GULL loafed around on Mill Pool for about 40 minutes. My first in FORTY TWO years. Also female Marsh Harrier and adult Yellow-legged Gull. #alvecotepools #warksbirding #naturecure
That time of year every birder loves! A pretty decent time down at the patch this morning. 2 Great White Egret, 6 Little Egret, 4 Lapwing, Golden Plover (over), Snipe, 3 Common Sandpiper, Red Kite & Hobby. πͺΆ #ukbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding #alvecotepools #warksbirding #autumnbirding #peakybirders

A rain storm tonight brought down 132 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a single Herring Gull. Also Great White Egret and Redstart present, plus an influx of Mallard and Teal with Shoveler numbers reduced. πͺΆ #patchbirding #alvecotepools #warksbirding #ukbirds #ukbirding #peakybirders #westmidsbirding
The highlight tonight was second-winter Yellow-legged Gull dropping in for a quick bathe. There were also 3 Great White Egret (the first since 27th April), an influx of 122 Gadwall, 22 Lapwing, Redstart and Whinchat. #patchbirding #ukbirds #ukbirding #alvecotepools #warksbirding #peakybirders
72 species clocked up at the patch today for the βWest Midlands Birding All-Dayerβ. Highlights were 5 Wigeon, Hobby, 2 Swift, Spotted Flycatcher and 3 Whinchat. It was one hard slog! #alvecotepools #warksbirding #staffsbirding #WestMidsAllDayer #ukbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding #localpatch
A single female Whinchat at the patch this evening. With a lack of hirundines about, the regular Hobby turned its attention to scoffing Migrant Hawkers and Common Darters instead. The views were amazing! Plate courtesy of Birds of the Western Palearctic. #patchbirding #ukbirds #alvecotepools #warks
The only new bird of note on the patch today was a juvenile Pintail. Still solid numbers of Shoveler about the place. A Hobby hunting a gathering of House Martin and Sand Martin was also cool to see. #alvecotepools #warksbirds #warksbirding #patchbirding #localpatch #ukbirds #ukbirding #peakybirders
Two trips to the patch today (morning & evening) produced 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Whinchat, Redstart & 5 Lesser Whitethroat. Also a record count of 217 Shoveler for Mill Pool. #patchbirding #localpatch #ukbirds #ukbirding #alvecotepools #warksbirds #warksbirding #westmidlandsbirding #peakybirders
Finally. Not one, but two Redstarts on the Warwickshire side of the patch, including a fine male. Also the first 7 Wigeon of the Autumn, 117 Shoveler (best count in years) and female Peregrine. #ukbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding #alvecotepools #warksbirds #warksbirding #peakybirders #birds
Early morning on the patch produced loads of common migrants. The pick of the bunch was a single Spotted Flycatcher and 5 Lesser Whitethroats. Still no sign of Redstart this year though. Grrrrrrrr! #ukbirds #ukbirding #patchbirding #alvecotepools #staffsbirds #staffsbirding #peakybirders
It was pretty quiet on the patch this morning. The star bird was a rather showy female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. Other nice stuff included Hobby, 4 Swift and a few Garden Warblers and Lesser Whitethroats. #alvecotepools #staffsbirding #westmidlandsbirding #peakybirders
The patch today, before and after it was shrouded in Canadian wildfire smoke particles from 5,000 miles away. Not a great deal to report other than 7 Little Egret, 2 Hobby, 2 Swift and 25 House Martin. #alvecotepools #warksbirding #peakybirders #UKbirding
An enjoyable morning around the patch in North Warwickshire today with an influx of common Warblers. The haul included 30+ Willow Warblers, 20+ Chiffchaff, 12 Blackcap, 3 Garden Warbler, 13 Whitethroat, 2 Lesser Whitethroat and 10 Sedge Warbler. #ukbirding #patchbirding #localpatch #alvecotepools
