Looking up Robson Street in Vancouver where the road was recently converted to one lane each way with wide sidewalks for pedestrians. There’s a double decker bus parked at a hotel in the background and in the foreground is a bioswale next to a cement barrier that has the word “Rain” embossed on it.

A person walks down a wide sidewalk on Robson street in downtown Vancouver on a bright and sunny morning, there’s no traffic on the road but a few cars parked on the left in the distance. A mural on a building on the right and a sandwich board sign for Caffe W

Crouching next to a bioswale on one side of the street (dirt and plants in a storm water runoff area of the road) looking across the 2 lane road at the other bioswale next to a cement barrier that has the word “Rain” embossed on it. People are walking by on the sidewalk in the background in front of some shops

The Bute-Robson Plaza upgrades include super wide sidewalks on Robson (much needed) and some lively #bioswales in every corner 🌱💧

@yalee360.bsky.social @yaleforestry.bsky.social I would love to hear more about these for my blog. #bioswales This was created by #Yale #Forestry and School of the #Environment. Right on George and Church in #NewHaven

So where are #bioswales, like in #Gowanus? We are woefully under prepared when it comes to #climate resiliency, with too much #car infrastructure and #concrete, which will not absorb #rainwater in #ParkSlope

A new (to me) #bioswales idea; a "rain train" - that is a series of rain gardens at descending elevations, connected by a concrete trough, which is fed from rooftop water.

It's designed to handle up to 135mm of rain per 24 hour period - a one in fifty year event in St Paul, Minnesota where this is!

Today's #bioswales content: A short video taking a stroll through a huge rain garden in Bayview, San Francisco. So peaceful and a lovely design to boot youtu.be/B0numOezBLU

Patagonia HQ in Ventura uses #bioswales to manage stormwater runoff from the road and carparks. The water gets filtered by the plants, soil, gravel, and stones before being transported out to sea via perforated stormwater pipes.

This rain garden in San Francisco catches run off from the nearby carpark, filters it, and recharges the groundwater.

Also grows plants and looks great! Why don't we have more #bioswales in New Zealand?

Check out this magnificent bioswale at the El Cerrito BART station in California

Here are some nice #bioswales doing their thing during the San Francisco floods of 2022–2023.

Today on #bioswales a little educational content care of The Watershed Project.

Bioswales can be used for a range of objectives, but primarily it's to channel and slow stormwater, whilst removing silt and debris.

They are also used to 'recharge' groundwater (that is, refill an underground aquifer)

This week's #bioswales content is a tiered rain garden that redirects stormwater from the gutter into the swale - clever and beautiful.

#bioswales o'clock

This is a "swale cell", which is like a bioswale but designed to catch excess stormwater from a gutter and direct it into a green and lush catchment area.

Don't know about you but I'd be happy to be locked in a swale cell!

#bioswales time!

This bioswale in Paso Robles, California is a clever and beautiful way to channel stormwater. Why hide it underground?

A lovely bioswale in the area between a footpath and a quiet residential street. The bioswale includes lots of different coloured plants and trees, and is taken after some heavy rain.

This seems like a good time to promote the beautiful form and function of #bioswales - kinda like if a drain and a garden joined forces and gained additional powers!

This is the bioswale that started my love of bioswales. Photo taken in Seattle by Clarion Associates for the EPA

South Mall in Cork all the way around to St. Patricks Street & onwards onto the Quays. Around City Hall too. It's all possible but they'll keep telling you it's not because of zero imagination except for cars. #bioswales #suds #trams #lightrail #activetravel

#museum30 Controversial // Didnt have time 2 hunt for a #specimen with a good #annotationbattle, so here’s 1 of our #bioswales outside @brit_org. We still hear from those who prefer a cleaner design, but prelim data show denser natural swales perform better. Compromise?
