What you can't see in this photograph is the female Tundra swan just to the right, behind the bird on the right-off screen who was being wooed by the Tundra on the right--the one with their head aimed toward water with lots of commotion in the water around the bird. The Tundra swan on the left had the misfortune to say something to the male in the middle of their mating "dance", which made the swan on the right take a jab at the interloper. Neither bird was harmed in these macho displays, just lots of fun for us viewers.
