Gravestone of Anna Petrovna Kozhukhova (1793-1827) in the cemetery of the Donskoy Monastery in Moscow (sculptor: I.P.Martos, 1830). The monument sculpture depicting grieving angel kneeling before the urn with the ashes of the dead. Originally it was made in 1830 for the tombstones E.S.Korneevoy, buried in the cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St. Petersburg, and then repeated for the tomb to A.P.Kozhuhovoy in the cemetery of the Donskoy Monastery. On the pedestal of the monument the following text: "unforgettable friend of the inconsolable husband with four orphans."
One of the earliest sculptural monuments of the Don necropolis is a tombstone over the grave of Senator I.I.Kozlov (1716-1788), the grandfather of the famous poet of the Romantic era I.I.Kozlov . This work was created, probably, by the sculptor G.T. Zamaraev in the beginning of the XIX century. In the crescent marble gazebo, in its very center, there is a rather interesting sculptural composition. A young woman in antique clothes stands on one side of the pedestal, and on the other hand a smiling lion sits on her hind legs and looks at her expressively. On the pedestal there is a bas-relief portrait of Senator I.I.Kozlov. It is not entirely believable story associated with this monument: As if during the stay of Napoleon's army within the walls of the Don monastery in 1812, one of the Frenchmen chopped off the arm of a marble beauty, later took it and took it with him as a trophy to France.

Donskoy Monastery is a major monastery in Moscow, founded in 1591 in commemoration of Moscow's deliverance from the threat of an invasion by the Crimean Khan Kazy-Girey. Commanding a highway to the Crimea, the monastery was intended to defend southern approaches to the Moscow Kremlin.
The monastery's main cathedral is the Our Lady of the Don Large Cathedral. It is called the Large Cathedral or the New Cathedral to distinguish it from the smaller and older cathedral of the same name within the monastery. The Large Cathedral was built between 1684 and 1698 in the Naryshkin Baroque style and has five domes on tall tholobates surrounded by a two-storey gallery. The cathedral's beautiful iconostasis has been preserved which includes a revered copy of the Our Lady of the Don Icon (the original is now held at the State Tretyakov Gallery). The relics of Patriarch Tikhon are also interred inside the cathedral.
The main entrance to the monastery is served by Ss Zechariah and Elisabeth's Gate-Church which is built into the monastery's western wall. The church was built between 1730 and 1755 and incorporates a bell tower built in the standard the octagon-on-cube form.
The Donskoy Monastery was founded in 1591 in honor of the defeat of the troops of the Crimean Khan Kazy- Giray. After the revolution the monastery was closed. In the 30s fragments of destroyed Moscow churches were brought here. Today in the monastery one can see the amazing high reliefs of the blown up Cathedral of Christ the Savior. A monumental eight-tiered carved iconostasis with icons of “Fryazhsky style" (style of Russian icon-painting with western influence) survived in the Great Cathedral of the Donskoy Monastery of the XVII century.
