There are other ways that flowers change. In Cordia boissieri, only the throat of the tubular flower changes. The throat starts yellow and ages to orange. #Boraginaceae #color #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

Look closely (zoom in!) at the leaves of Ehretia microphylla to see the pointed hairs that give these leaves an 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 surface. “Echinus” is Latin for hedgehog. #Boraginaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

A plant nearly 900 km offshore 🌊

#Cryptantha stylosa is endemic to Isla San Ambrosio, a tiny island far west of central #Chile. Long treated as a taxonomic outlier, it turns out to be a striking example of long-distance dispersal in #Boraginaceae. @phytokeys.pensoft.net

Photo showing a blue flower borne at the tip of a flowerhead. Around it are one wrinkled, faded blue floret and several immature pink ones. The mature flower has pink stamens bearing purple anthers. The flowerhead is covered in tiny, hairy flower bracts where other florets previously were. In the background, two other blurry flowerheads can be seen. Watermark identifying photographer as Geneviève Laurin.

Some more summer color to liven up winter.
I miss doing my daily macrophotography walk, so I am going through my archives for photos I took but had yet to get a good look at.

The photograph shows a close-up of a delicate blue wildflower with five soft, rounded petals radiating like a star. The petals have a faint, velvety texture, shimmering under the sunlight. At the flower’s center lies a tuft of fine, white filaments, giving it a frosted, glowing heart. Around the main bloom, more blossoms and unopened buds spread outward on thin, hairy stems with a purplish tint. The background is blurred into a soft green, highlighting the flower’s vivid blue. A watermark, “@ahaktekin,” is visible in the lower left corner.

#Trichodesma zeylanicum #Boraginaceae, is the only WA species with the genus along with 3 subspecies! I Love the flowers but it’s really not one to touch with those irritating hairs! They get to 2m tall and are very common and widespread across WA!

This is Green alkanet Pentaglottis sempervirens, probably my favourite wild flower. I got to paint this for a new chart called "Discover Wildflowers", due to be published by Field Studies Council later this year.

#Heliotropiaceae include Heliotropium + 3 other genera. They are vegetatively like #Boraginaceae with similar flowers, but the style is terminal and the stigmatic head is enlarged. This is Heliotropium polyphyllum. #Boraginales #botany 🌱🧪🌾
