Checking the field opposite house this evening and found this Curlew! Patch year tick #pwc2026 #cheshirebirding #ukbirding
The long staying male Scaup showed well @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social yesterday. A massively declining species. Once common in Liverpool Bay it’s now a scarce visitor #cheshirebirding #ukbirding
Busy day @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social repairing one of Heligoland traps ready for the main migration. Birding time limited but did manage Scaup off N end. Probably the long staying bird at WK Marine Lake #cheshirebirding #ukbirding
Little Owl in our garden again tonight #littleowl #cheshirebirding #ukbirding

Finally the pond opposite the house has filled with water after being dry for most of the year. It’s only since Christmas it’s held enough water to start attracting wildfowl including the 1st Shoveler of the year. Mallard & Gadwall also present & the Coots are back #ukbirding #cheshirebirding
Lovely winter plumaged adult Mediterranean Gull on wet fields behind house with Black-headed Gulls this morning. Lesser Black-backs & Common Gulls moving as well #cheshirebirding

Glazebury WWTW Culcheth, several chiffchaffs on the beds, inc. the bird in the photos which looks like tristis to me, though happy to hear opinions. There was definitely a tristis calling in the area but I just couldn't be sure that it was the bird in the photos #RareBirdsUK #CheshireBirding
Potential hybrid Cackling x Canada Goose with Greylags. Colours and proportions of a Ridgway's Cackler but a big bird with a slightly elongated bill. Formerly hung around with a Barnacle, but now with Greylags, rather than the Canadas in the same field
Finished off the wild goose chase with the local oddball, potentially a Cackling x Canada Goose that's been around a while, at Burleydam. 6.5 species of geese in north Shropshire/south Cheshire ain't bad #shropshirebirding #cheshirebirding
Adult Tundra Bean Goose with Pink-footed Geese
7 adult Russian White-fronted Geese with Pink-footed Geese
Tundra Bean and 9 Russian Whitefronts with 1,250 Pinks by the A49 1/4ml south of Cholmondeley crossroads at 1245. Tried to get Shropshire in on the nationwide influx but slipped into old south Cheshire haunts #cheshirebirding
All my local patch lists from 1st Jan to current day just added to @BirdTrack. 107 lists exported from Bird Journal as a csv file and uploaded #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

The pond opposite our house is slowly filling up with water again after being invisible all summer. It’s beginning to attract wildfowl again with 6 Mandarin & 12 Mallard this morning on a dark wet December day #ukbirding #cheshirebirding
Volume up. Sitting in the house whilst it’s still pitch black outside & heard Little Owl calling from fields in front of us. Glad to know they’re still around but haven’t discovered where yet #ukbirding #cheshirebirding #littleowls
Adult winter plumaged Med Gull in field behind house partially hidden by trees. Taken through bedroom window. Good find among 300 B H Gulls, 100 Common Gulls a few Herring Gulls & a single Lesser Black Backed Gull #ukbirding #patchbirding #cheshirebirding
11 Whooper Swans just flown over the garden heading NW presumably towards Martin Mere! Patch gold. Only my 3rd sighting in 9 years living here #pwc2025 #cheshirebirding #ukbirding
Dusk at Parkgate is always a treat: Barn Owl, RT Hen Harrier, Merlin, Tawny Owl, 9 Marsh Harrier, Water Pipit, Water Rails, & 5 GW Egret...topped off with a chippy tea! #UKBIRDING #CheshireBirding #WirralBirding youtu.be/x5q8FoD6WPk?...
There have been few gulls around locally so far this year but local farmer started ploughing maize stubble y’day. Heavy rain here and looking out bedroom window saw a few gulls congregating on field behind house. Checked them out & found this winter plumaged Med Gull! #ukbirding #cheshirebirding
